Hi,

Just been thinking about flipping domains, has anyone ever started from nothing and flipped domains making them a millionaire ?

What I mean is -

1.Reg or buy one domain $xxx

2.Sell for low $x,xxx

3 Buy next one for low $x,xxx

4 Sell for high $x,xxx

5 Buy next one for high $x,xxx

6 Sell for Low $xx,xxx

and so on.....

I wonder if it takes luck, skill or having a end-user database ready and waiting.... or all three?

Can this be done do you think?

There was a story I read a few months back about how a guy started with $1k and did it. I can't remember his name but yes, it can be done!

The better bet would be to create a unique online service :imho:

In the beginning I saw almost the same picture as presented mrcurly.
And the beginning was very similar.
In theory of course it's possible (4 domains to $1 mln), but in practice you should be very lucky to get these magic 2-nd and especcialy 3-rd and 4-th names.
In mine history when I was after selling reg fee name for a xxx, I purchased more reg fee names and sell them for xx and xxx... and so on, and so on.
Now I have many domains and don't know what to do with them
Fail :)

Hi,

literally, no one could start with nothing.

but yeah, i know what you mean

it would have been easier and more likely, years ago.

as the top tier names that are yearned for now, were available to register or acquire at costs far below their asking prices today.

for instance, 10yrs ago these were price ranges:

LLL/NNN.com > low $$$ > low $$$$
LLL/NNN.net $$ > $$$ range
LLL/NNN.org reg fee > $$ range
3char com > reg fee > $$
LLL/NNN.info > free > reg fee

NNNN/LLLL.com > reg fee

so, a smart buyer, with some cash, could have certainly come-up a long way.

though some us may have not reached a "mil" yet, we're still in the game...so we still got time.

then again, reaching six figs ain't bad e-dah!

:)

Thanks for the reply biggie, the above can be achieved through brokering a sale and buying nice domains from that...

That is true...

about what biggie said...I sold a 3 LLL .com many moons ago for 400$ lol that is how long I been in this...talk about FAIL.

its possible but in this business there are so many variables and so many things that could interfere in it, the chances of it happening like you describe are slim. you could get to step 3 and then take years before you find a buyer who will pay the amount to move on to the next. for most of the big successful domainers they all seem to be able to be traced back to one big sale that gave them the cash to keep going.

I suppose it is all about reinvesting 100% , no throwing $1,000 of a sale on renewals, car repairs and the rest.....it is hard to do and unfortunately that is life!

Do people on here have 1 account for domaining only? What goes out of your bank goes back in after the sale to buy your new domain? Or do you dip in different accounts when and if necessary?

lol no. I bought my house from a domain/site sale. that is called profit.

Say for example you had $160k , would not buying say 8 $20k domains push your next balance (sales provided) to $300k?......I suppose it is that "sales provided" part that might scare some from pushing to that next level.

not necessarily. if my 160k was from a sale, i would put back what was used to make that 160, plus say 10 or so percent, but thats just me.

If you had started from scratch.....would you not keep going for that million?

didn't buy a house, but domain income has bought a couple of cars, helped pay off some bills as well paid for renewals and new acquisitions.

it's cash you use for whatever, cuz that's what money is for

The concept is trading a paper clip up to a house (i think some guy did this, publicity helps along the way)

Now trading and splitting into 8 names down the road is a different story, thats just sound business.

The problem with doing it directly is you will get stuck sitting on a name for a long time, and the people you try to trade with will get smarter as the domain vale goes up.

Almost the same is here. Purchased 2 nice shirts from the domain sales LOL

Generally I think it's very hard to be a pure domainer. I mean to reinvest all the time. I made it for around 2,5 years and than became to use this profit for different purporses.

Just as a FYI...I have had much higher profit with site sales than domain sales. So that might be a better way to go for some people.

I treated the wife to a Chinese with my sale last week.....and shared the 1 starter!

I was told the quickest way to get $1 million from domains was to spend $3 million..

With Go-Daddy codes you might only have to spend $1.5 million....
