Today is the five year anniversary of the craziest forum in the domaining industry. The Dot TV sub forum.

A lot has changed over the last year,

No more premium pricing for renewals on registrations after March 18,2010.

Great pricing from the likes of Name.com $10.99a year, along with Dynadot and Domain Monster.

A successful Sedo auction that had a name sell for xxx,xxx (Business.tv)

Good to see a bunch of new people like, Manos,TJ,Digitalfog,BlackJack21,MonteChristos,ixex and many more.

Domainer of the year goes to RPK. The creation of Parked.tv has given people focused on .tv a better presentation piece for their .tv domains. Richard also had a successful year buying and selling .tv.

Salesman of the year Jimbo, Great year.

Hall of Fame inductee for 2010 John TV. The best .tv domainer I have known has been a driving force year in and year out and with his sale of RT.tv solidified his status in .tv.

Thanks for all the veterans who have made this place worthwhile.

And to John, Jean Francois, Lance, Ian and .mike thanks for having the interest in the extension that got Rj and I to create this place. Its been a longgggggggggggggggggggg five years.

Thank you to RJ for the support over the years.
Good luck to everyone going forward.

5 years... See how things have changed since then !
Tribute to you RAYMOND for your vision and everything you did brilliantly to make the .tv forum what it is today : the largest source for information on .tv and a growing team of bright minds and .tv experts. The .tv extension owes you Ray and the .tv community a LOT.
Congrats and kudos to all. Happy anniversary !

Hall of Fame inductee for 2010 John TV.
Thanks Ray! I'm honered, although I truly believe that you deserve it more then I do! Without this forum being started by you we all would not be as good informed in .tv land as we are now and be able to make better decisions in .tv.

Although I'm a bit quiet on this forum, I check often and am still very involved in .tv. Actually, I have bought many more .tv's this year and have my best .tv portfolio I ever had as I think .tv is potentially one of the best investment opportunities on the internet right now.

As Ray already mentioned, a lot happened since this forum started and I'm looking forward to the next 5 years :tu:

I started domaining about five years ago and didn't even like the .TV extension until 2008 as a Spanish domain forum member's enthusiasm convinced me to take a closer look at the extension. While I likely missed some opportunities in .TV by not starting till 2008, at least by the time I started regging .TV, I had a sense for what to look for in a domain which beginning domainers typically lack. So while I have deleted many .COM, .Net and .Biz regs, I have retained most of my .TVs. It appears Google sandboxes .TV sites longer than .COM or .Net, but between 6and 15 months, it appears Google slowly starts to give a .TV site recognition. Given that one can more easily find quality keywords in .TV than .COM, one can acquire a decent portfolio in .TV which would be impossible in .COM.

Thanks Ray for the honor and I totally agree with John that you should be the first one inducted. If it was not for this sub-forum which you started I would never have gotten into .tv. I also feel that the decisions we have seen with the extension and a lot of other players in the .tv space have been impacted by this sub-forum.

I've been a member of this sub-forum I believe for almost 4 years now and I stop by at least once a day every day since then :)

Those that have been around know that there has been a lot of ups and downs and even a few clowns over the years and I'm really looking forward to these next 5 years!

Being here from only 2 and half here I didn't know it was your idea the .tv subforum.
Thank you very much.
It will be very interesting to see where we'll be at the 10th anniversary.

Thank you Raymond for establishing this joint and for the mention. Iโ€™ve been glued to this subforum over the last month or so. Itโ€™s a case of total tunnel vision โ€“ this forum has sucked me right into .tv land, as a domain newbie Iโ€™ve found everything here to get me up and running.

To me the desktop pc is a work tool. Sitting on a desk amongst an ungainly mass of to-doโ€™s โ€“ to watch a movie, a funny video or family videos even catching up with sports and news is an exercise in futility as the setting degrades the experience . Taking a notebook out of there to the lounge to rejoin the family doesnโ€™t work either; having 3 - 4 people crouch over a laptop is yet another ungainly endeavor. The big screen is screaming away to be used. People gather on their sofaโ€™s hours on end each day to watch the box. Delivering web content in the 10-foot experience that people are accustomed to on their 50 inch hdtv is the calling as I as see it of any .tv website. A .com as a destination for a tv experience? Why confuse the issue โ€“ why goto a .com that perhaps is a hybrid video / text and perhaps not; in that its display just doesnโ€™t look and feel right on the big screen. .TV GUI should be different from a .com โ€“ universal remote driven and video centric with minimum text and calibrated sound / transitions. I think a .tv site should be built out to denote that experience โ€“ announcing itself completely distinct from a generic .com.

Hereโ€™s to the success of all the .tv npers here โ€“ that in the next 5 years, when the living room has been reclaimed from the virtual world as the place to gather - that when people grab the remote to surf for sites offering a familiar look and feel to the costly cable satellite TV offerings ( that they by now have ditched ) a .tv domain will be the natural first port of call EVERYTIME in a sea of videos.

Thanks for the kind words, I do think going forward people need to first stick to why they are doing this ? Have a gameplan, and know that other extensions are coming. While you may say ".tv is better than whatever.ext" It is still dilution, you may have to lower prices or have someone go with another alt extension. Forget about competing against .com, alt extensions mainly compete against other alt extensions.

For newer members you don't want to own 200 .tv names unless it is for a specific plan or you have a big bankroll and it will not affect it. But for 99.8% of everyone else here you need to always be thinking and price your names reasonably.

.TV will be fine the question is will you, your portfolio and your bankroll be fine ? Your reasons for regging a name need to be about an idea you have, not that online video is big, THAT MEANS NOTHING TO REGGING .TV NAMES.

Best of luck

Five years and so much information has been shared, and so much learned, during that time.

Equity, it is thanks to you that so many of us now have the high quality / high worth portfolio's we could only have imagined when we started on our individual journeys. There may now be many other spaces where TV is discussed and information shared, but this was the first serious place - and you should take credit for a job well done.

Thanks also for the moniker of Salesman of the Year. I'm very honoured.

I certainly don't consider myself a sales person and actually thought my auctions/sales were all about passing on good names I had in my portfolio to other people in little bunches - and using the money they generated to buy one or two really high quality names elsewhere.

I am only a newbie to many of the 'originals' like Argos and John, but it is interesting to see the many people who have come and gone over the time. One or two dip in, don't quite get it, and dip out again as fast as possible. However, the majority get to understand the extension and see how they can get the names they need for their developments or make a profit on the sales side.

Whatever people's reasons for being here the fact is very plain. The .TV extension is NOTHING like it was when this forum started. The rules are different, the acceptance of .TV is different, the technology of internet Tv is different - the DEMAND is different.

Since March we have been in whole other world, hence the many many new faces here and many new names that we see on the WHOIS.

Many more established domainers have joined in the party such as Michael Berkens, Page Howe, Christ Hartnett, Ben Van Dyk, etc.

We've also seen our first six-figure sale this year, plus dozens and dozens of, almost daily, five figure sales.

.TV is different today, and for all those who people who stuck here through thick and thin, listening to the constant 'TV is Dead' chirpings, the taste of the 'now' must be very sweet.

Thanks Ray. Your efforts have been well and truly appreciated by all here.

This is NOT a team sport, but if we are all going in the same direction, it is nice to share the journey.

and :$: made.

Equity, it is thanks to you that so many of us now have...- and you should take credit for a job well done.
Ray - The one and only Everything.tv :kickass:

Your knowledge, passion, and generosity have helped MANY in more ways than just .tv domains. RJ was wise to allow you to create and support this group. Hats off to you my friend.
