Today we have our three year anniversary of the .tv sub forum. The thread about an extension that sucked that turned into a forum within a forum has grown to be larger than a lot of stand alone forums.

Thank you to all the new people over the last year and hopefully you have benefitted from the forum as a member here.

First things first, thank you as always to Argos,JohnTV,AMCY.org,Badger,.mike and TldNetworks the six people who were the whole reason I started this sub forum.

Thank you to RJ for listening to the idea of an extension specific forum within a forum, and thank you for the latitude of allowing the forum to run like it does and adding all the extra features here.

Over the last year I think we have seen some more confrontation in the forum than in previous years, some of this is due to trolls, some of it is difference in ideology and thirdly unfortunately some people here just do not like one another.

People ask are the members not on as much and overall on every area of the forum that is true, when there are not a lot of sales going on some people are not as much, I think we also have some people who play all sides, who one day are leaving and the next day are here just invisible, then others who complain about certain things that are under more control here than any other forum.

The bottom line is there is a place for everyone, those who complain about certain facets of the .tv sub forum have not become active posters at Development.tv which is a great place for discussing development. It was written up here which is a rarity on a domain forum as usually competing forums are not allowed to be mentioned.

But if you are looking for troll free posting and discussion and have contributed here in a positive way you can join and be apart of the .tv private board, if you want to complain about DemandMedia you have a stickied thread for that, if you want to talk about development, Join Development.tv.

To be honest there is no excuse for the complaining anymore, you have troll free zone, a development forum and a critique thread to rant about Demand Media and the pricing structure.

In all honesty I think with the slowdown in the economy there is not a lot of sales on the reseller level, so people probably need to focus on development and other areas of online business. This is just one extension for it to have compelling conversation everyday from a domaining standpoint is not easy.

You need to decide are you a domainer in a non domainer friendly extension in an economic slowdown, or are you a domainer and have something to add to the net.

To those who have contributed here, Thank you, to those who want to have the same rant every week, you would probably be best served starting your own blog, the non sense here will not continue into the new year.

Staying on topic is a rule here, if a thread is about Allthings.tv, that means to discuss Allthings.tv in that thread, not your personal editorial on the premium pricing system. You have a critique thread use it, or start your own thread if it is about something unrelated to the threads overall topic.

Doubts on the extension are fine to express in your own thread, not in someone elses, I get pms every other day to the effect " If you cannot ban that person I do not want him posting in my thread" or "I posted about BMW using .tv why is someone posting anything other than BMW in my thread ?"
Now some will say well do not delete this or delete that. Bottom line if someone wants to start a thread and say I have doubts about .tv because...... That thread will never get deleted, but you will not piss in someone elses thread. Secondly you will get one of those threads, if you really don't like the extension that's fine, but why are you here ? Again the forum was never started to discuss whether .tv will be the next .com, it was started for like minded people who want a place to discuss .tv. And the what about the newbies ? There is plenty here for them to read, there has been a lot written here that points out pitfalls, using the search function will bring a lot of threads up. The new registrants guide probably needs to be stickied so it is easy to read for people new to the extension.

There has been a lot of good over the last three years, I get pms from people thanking me and NP that they would have never got into .tv without the subforum and they have made money and are happy with the .tv domains they have acquired since being a member here. To all those that have done well I am glad for you and wish everyone success in .tv and in every other area of life.

I would have never thought this forum would become this big in three years time and it surpassed all expectations and has led the way for extension specific forums.

Thank you.

I think I am not alone is having wondered on many occasions why you (or anyone for that matter) would ever wish to administer a place such as this. One minute a hell hole of immaturity, madness, greed or recklessness (or ALL four at once), the next a heaven of innovation, bIG thoughts, dreams, ambitions, wealth, helpfulness and success.

All these emotions, up and down, combined with an audience which includes pure money driven domainers, future-viewing developers, economic wannabe's, hardworkers and the lazy, and, of course, a fair sprinkling of classic bullsh^itters, doubters, temporary Joe's - and the seriously mentally unhinged.

It would drive me nuts!

But then I realise that IS exactly why someone as special as you can, and do, run this place so well. You are not like the rest of us - you are different - and that's why three years later, love it or hate it, many dozens of us come back day after day just to check what's going on. Some may not post too often, some may post too much (aaaah huuuum!), but we ALL come here because of what you have enabled the world to see - a place where information about internet TV and the extension .TV can be discussed. A rare place made all the more shiny by your efforts in galvanising a willing, if sometimes unready, audience.

And credit be upon you even more for doing this without payment - and more often than not - a tirade of criticism and abuse in its place.

Ray, you once thanked me for offering you camera equipment in Europe if you ever decided to come over. That was easy, it was a simple, and momentary, thing. YOU on the other hand offer much more than the mundane - YOU give your time and expertise EVERY day, without fault, bias or stress. Many here would not have learned half as quick the things they now know if it were not for your efforts and your ability - and the way in which you encourage others here to help their fellow NPers.

I have read your words and even though I had only ONE .TV name in May of THIS year I now have seen that number grow considerably in quality and value through this place and the help it has assisted me in my own personal quest to bring my take on internet TV to the world. Were it not for many of the things I have learned here, or the people I have met, I doubt I could have made such rapid progress in amassing a portfolio that I could only have dreamed about had I never heard of Namepros in the first place. I recently turned down an offer for $40,000 for a name - a name I would never have had if I had not gained the expertise sat among these very threads. My goodness, the finest royal tailors couldn't weave threads as good as these - and in the biggest way of all - it's your fault!

I thank you so very much for suggesting I was Domainer of the Year, but would counter that in many ways this is only really because the others who really deserve this ackowledgement have already been recognised for their great contribution previously.

I would also suggest that I disagree intensely with the notion of Michaeldotcom being
2008 ROOKIE of the year - there is no way that he could ever have been a novice - he's too good - as I know every time I go to buy a name and find his fingerprints all over it!!! The creation of Development.TV is also the work of a real pro and I would suggest you check his IP address against those who have been here a lot longer.

On the other hand I DO agree with the acknowledgment of Argos with his Lifetime Achievment/Contributor award. Some avatars always come automatically with wise words and Argos' avatar is supreme among that category

The biggest acknowledgment, as we all know, should have been the one that was omitted - the one your should have given yourself for your tireless contribution to ensuring that the 'crappiest of crappy extensions' - our beloved .TV is firmly embedded, in a very positive way, in the minds of millions of internet users all over the world.

I look forward to celebrating many more years - and suggest the march forward will be a whole lot easier than when you first ventured forward with this experiment in 2005. The rest of us are standing on the shoulders of giants indeed!

Excellent post and I agree with every word! Congrads .tv and thak you Ray for your continued and tireless efforts on this forum!

Congrats to all.

Ray: You have done a great job 'building this forum fom scratch into something bigger than ever expected'

Michaeldotcom: A class act in all ways & the most knowledgeable man i've ever had pleasure to know. Any subject, any domain, any website i ask him about then within seconds he can tell me all the info, who owns it, what they paid...etc
Also became a good friend to me over past year who deserves all praise given for his role in .Tv (both through posts on NP & his work on development.tv where he is the true star of that show)

Jimbo: Congrats, you have done great to build up a world class portfolio of domains. Great guy too, especially when he is nice enough to make me big offers.

Argos: Posts are always very thoughtful & full of knowledge, one of reasons many NP threads were so useful.

Congrats on NP .Tv forum being 3 yr old, i'm sure in 3 years time many of us will still be using the forum is some form.

Cheers,
Ronnie

Hear Hear!, i couldn't agree more

HAPPY BIRTHDAY .TV FORUM !

THANK YOU RAYMOND for running successfully this incredible forum gathering members from all continents to this rich bubbling place. Yes three years of ups and downs, it is full of passion and doubt, victories and fails, business and creativity, instinct and knowledge, it is about energy and hopes, this forum is diversity and life, what best ! Look outside, three years after the .TV is no longer a gadget extension, not more an outsider, not even a trend, .TV is pure branding becoming as such an intangible asset. The industries don't need us to develop the future today but the .TV FORUM is the best catayst of the extension, building on its own year after year a following of supporters and of stake holders, so feel the .TV wave, keep on learning and sharing, enjoy the surf and be proud of our common flag because either you are a domainer, a speculator, a developer, an entrepreneur, whoever and wherever you are, we are all part of it.

Respect to ALL.

Wow, as time goes by.........

So I like to think of myself as someone who rarely contributes. And yet I see that since I joined the ranks of TV "members" my posts have jumped an amazing amount.

After almost, but not quite 2 years here, I have not found ANY other namepros forum more interesting.

There has been very little outright banning of members here, and in fact you can quote me on this: "ALL OPINIONS WELCOME".

And I say that with some trepidation. There are hundreds, thousands, millions, and trillions of forums and blogs where contradicting opinions are summarily banned and erased. Here they are not only encouraged, they are discussed, disseminated, and very much debated.

I have NEVER experienced a forum where ideas are DEBATED as well as this one. Usually after 30 posts in the same thread we see endless bashing of the original posters thoughts, but here we actually take the time to go back and forth about the thoughts.

Let's take an example: Demand Media. We all have VERY specific thoughts about what they have and have not done with the extension. we have now debated this one to death.

In most forums, any mention of them would be meant with outright bashing. Here? Nope, we say things like "Well, channelme.tv is ok, but here are the downsides...." and "yes, they have good prices, and right now with this coupon they are the best"....

I think it is safe to say that none of us are "fans" of demand. But we would also never hesitate to state when enom has the better deal.

WOW, give me fifty cents and I will blather on.

Basically, I don't think any forum can quite match this one. We all "basically" believe the same thing, we just believe there are different time lines and how it will happen.
