Hi Everyone,

I have just recently decided to take a course in computer/internet realted categories (with ICS if anyone else who has done a course with them also has advice).

I have been looking around the internet the past few weeks and have decided do either 'Web Page Designer' or 'Introduction to Computer Programming'. I may end up doing both of them but i was just wondering which one would be more beneficial to start with.

I work as an Admin Assistant at the moment, so i would be doing my course work in the evenings at home.

I think it would be good for me to get a few qualifications under my belt as i left school when i was 17 and went into admin training and have been in this job ever since (im 23 now).

Essentially i am looking to eventually move onto a new job and was just wanting advice on which direction i should take, which qualification would give me more job opportunities.

The reason i am writing on here rather than a Computer Programming forum is that in doing the Web Designer course first, i may be able to get a little business at home while carrying on my Admin day job to make funds available to do the Comp Programming course.

But this is all a year or so down the line and i am first and foremost looking for advice on the course.

Well, thats about all ill say for now, sorry its so long for anyone who read it but any advice/feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris :tu:

Well I do both webdesign and backend programming. I am currently studying Software Engineering at the University of Western Ontario. My advice to you is to take the intro to computer programming. The design market is very swamped and from the resumes I've received from people coming out of design courses they really haven't produced anything mind boggling unless they were truly gifted.

There are a lot of designers out there and the competition is tough - you'll find you have an easier time finding a job as a programmer.
