Nausea. For most people it's something that comes from being sick or eating too much food. Maybe smelling something bad. For me, it's laziness. I felt sick because it seemed like I wasn't doing anything with my life. I also felt so sick because every time I went somewhere with people, they ended up covering my part of the bill because I was broke. It seemed it was my fault that I didn't have any money, but I went to many businesses and filled out applications. I took me a long time to realize that the only way to get a job would be by speaking with the hiring manager. I felt lazy and disgusting. If I hadn't completed two years of college in my first year, I might've killed myself.
Things are different now. Just before my fall semester I somehow landed a job at the local Burger King. I had been trying to get a real job for a couple of years. The jobs I had prior were short, spotty and under the table. The diner I worked for is for sale now. Burger King is different. Everything is streamlined, and most people focus on one or two things instead of everything. So far I love it. I work hard, and many of the workers are quite friendly. I feel sorry for them though. Most of them work 2 jobs, and some of them are quite old. I know one fellow who has 3 jobs to pay for his 7th grade sweetheart's college - and his BK job is full time.
Even though I wrote down 20-30 hours on the application, I have worked over 40 hours a week so far. I wouldn't want it any other way. Sure, sometimes I'm trying to swallow my ginseng-coffee fast enough on the way to class at 7AM a couple hours after a 9 hour night shift, so I don't momentarily pass out in the middle of morning traffic, but it feels so good. I don't feel nauseated anymore.
And I have money!
I discovered the domaining scene a few months ago. Many days I have researched this interesting field for hours. The moment I realized how much opportunity there was, I decided I would never give up on it. I made mistakes like most new domainers do. I registered mediocre .infos, and I bought some domains and half-assed tried to develop them. It didn't take long before I found out how hard it would be without some starting money. I did what most people do. GPT, MyLot, Ebay. Unfortunately, it wasn't anywhere near enough money and certainly not worth the time.
But now I have a real job that makes real money. This is my question: What should I do with it? I have narrowed things down to the following:
1. traffic-domain investing
2. adwords, yahoo, msn, etc
3. development and flipping
4. purchasing a site that makes money
5. finding typo/misspeller domains
6. start a tgp and use traffic-scripts and advertising
I would be willing to buy traffic-domains, but waiting 8-12 months to get any monthly profit sure is a long time. I don't think I can wait that long right now. Search marketing could be good, but apparently it's extremely risky. Development might be good, especially since I can pay someone to do advanced coding I am not proficient in yet. Development could be risky as well though. As far as purchasing a site that makes money goes - I have seen sites go for their trimonthly or even monthly rate on NP. I don't understand how this could be anything but a sham. Still, some of these sites are sold by reputed NP members. Maybe some people are willing to sell a $500/month site for $1000 because it requires a little work and they already have something else that makes more. I have tried finding typos recently with no luck. I use the google keyword tool to give me an idea how popular a generic term typo is, but it's not the best method. I bought frznce.com since it (frznce) had 3,000 search volume (monthly, right?). I bet I have 3-4 visitors on it by now (several days later). I guess I'm not a big fan of typo squatting anyway.
So what do you recommend, almighty NP? I feel like freedom from my insane parents and also despair lie right around the corner. I don't want to spend a whole bunch of this money only to watch it disappear. I already do that with gasoline every day.
I think I'm ready to get involved here for real.
:hearts: Thanks, NP.
