This looks interesting. Supported by ads/sponsorship of course, they plan to stream one movie a week made by independant filmmakers, with a lot of extra info and interviews too.

There's info about the first movie - "24 Hours on Craigslist" - here

Here's the news story for the entire "Movie of the Week" promo...
"24 Hours on Craigslist" is Film.com's debut movie with a new film featured each week

RealNetworks, Inc., the global leader in digital media and entertainment, announced today that its new film and entertainment information site, Film.com® is introducing the Film.com Movie of the Week, which includes free streaming access to full-length movies along with information, interviews, and background on the movie and its creators. Film.com will showcase established and up-and-coming filmmakers and their films throughout 2007.

The Film.com Movie of the Week will be supported by in-movie sponsorship and advertising allowing the movies to be free to site visitors. The initial catalog of movies are provided to Film.com through its relationship with GreenCine, a San Francisco-based company with extensive library of independent, international and documentary films. GreenCine offers more than 50,000 titles in over 250 genres for sale or rent with 10,000 of these films available on-demand for streaming or download.

"With our heritage of innovation in digital entertainment, RealNetworks is ideally positioned to continue driving the convergence of technology and entertainment throughout the daily lives of consumers," said Elizabeth Coppinger, vice president, Media Software and Services for Real. "We will be able to showcase up-and-coming and independent filmmakers and offer their films' exposure to an audience they might not consistently reach."

"When we launched our Video-on-Demand service three years ago, it was entirely with the intent of expanding distribution opportunities for independent and international films," said Jonathan Marlow, GreenCine's Content Vice President. "Our partnership with Film.com and RealNetworks is an ideal extension of these efforts and one posed to reach new audiences."

The first movie to be featured is "24 Hours on Craigslist," by director Michael Ferris Gibson and Zealot Pictures & Heretic Films, documenting a random day-in-the-life on Craigslist San Francisco. In addition to being able to watch the entire movie, Film.com will also provide supplemental information about the film and its creators.

"Through Film.com, filmmakers who want to make a difference will be able to gain broader exposure to a wider audience over the Internet," said 24 Hours on Craigslist Director Michael Ferris Gibson.

Real is accepting submissions from independent filmmakers for potential inclusion in the Film.com Movie of the Week program. To view the first free streaming movie as well as onsite coverage of this year's Sundance Film Festival, go to www.film.com - RealNetworks.

Nice.. my problem is I've yet to find any streaming media that doesn't have to spend half the movie stuttering and buffering, far from a pleasurable viewing experience, even with broadband.
