Fee Increase
The master-keeper of Internet addresses ending in dot com and dot net is going to raise fees for the registration of the names.
The annual levy for dot com will increase seven percent to US$6.42, and the dot net fee will go up ten percent to US$3.85.
The per-name fees are what VeriSign Inc. collects from companies that sell domain names on its behalf.
VeriSign runs the Domain Name System computers that keep track of all the dot com and dot net names.
With about 62 million of the names in use, VeriSign stands to ultimately make US$29 million a year from the increase, which will take effect from October 15th.
