Fasthosts unlimited bandwidth offer

I've seen a lot of advertising lately for unlimited bandwidth from Fasthosts:

http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/dedicatedservers/unlimited-bandwidth/

What does everyone reckon? I'm looking for a server that does not give me huge bandwidth bills, and having 'unlimited' bandwidth seems to be an ideal solution.

I have a site that shifts close to 500GB/mo, and in the future I can see it easily topping 1TB/mo and more, mainly because of the amount of traffic and network transfer rather than huge files being downloaded.

I'd be happy to sacrifice a little speed, but I'm wary that a lot of hosts advertise unlimited bandwidth and yet won't be able to cope with a high traffic website. And I'm on a tight budget of $250/mo or less...

Any advice?
Thanks buckets,
Paul.

You can get a dedicated server easily with 1 TB/month with your budget.

Remember that "unlimited bandwidth" really means unmetered bandwidth, so read the fine print. :)

.

Unlimited bandwidth really does not exist.

Might as well have 2 dedicated servers than a "unlimited" reseller... Resellers are not good either as your options are really limited.

There is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth for a simple reason. The connection speed you get from your host, be it 10Mbit or 100Mbit, limits how much data can be sent/received in a given time period. The hosts are aware of this and the ones that truly offer what they consider unlimited, know that it's still limited by this.

A 1TB server though should not be hard to find. When I was doing research into them, there was a lot for under your budget from reputable companies.

I found the website above earlier this evening whilst I was browsing another web hosting forum. They offer unmetered bandwidth servers at reasonable prices, with several plans within your budget. I've not read anything on the company though, so I would make sure that I research them before considering buying from them.

I use zipservers

with 250$ month you can have 2 decent servers (3TB data transfer a month) or you could go unmetered and get a 10mbps port on 1 very powerfull server. Your budget can easily cover your needs.

if you wona go real cheap dreamhost but they have been known to be down now and then more than other servers.

costs about $5 a month for 8TB of data but I doubt you could get 8TB of data they would probbaly make up a excuse. BTW thats $5 a month when you go 12 months with the $61 off voucher.

UNMETERED term is ambigous. How can someone offer that?

In actuality, Unmetered Bandwidth means that you use as much bandwidth as the server running it permits, taking into consideration the number of people using bandwidth on the server and the server's speed. The more people using bandwidth, the less bandwidth you'll be able to use. Unmetered bandwidth is a magnificent idea if there are only a few people using it, but is a terrible idea if there are too many people using it - a terrible idea.

"Unlimited" space/bandwidth of course are deceiving terms since a server can only offer as much as space/bandwidth that it was created with, plus one must consider other factors such as the speed of the server. Unlimited space/bandwidth, idealistically, can only be granted if the server was unlimited in resources, and at this point in time, that is not possible. One must be wary of terms like "unlimited" when it comes to space/bandwidth.

To the topic starter, in my honest opinion I would avoid "unlimited" or "unmetered" space/bandwidth plans because they are not what most people think they are. It's best to stick to fixed space/bandwidth totals. Just a suggestion.
