Hi,

have you ever tried using the 'site:' command in Google followed by the TLD of your choice ?

Please try these queries :
site:.zz
site:.space
site:.love
and whatever u want to try.

These extensions don't come from New.net, for sure.

The websites can't be accessed with a normal browser, but I'm sure there is something running behind these odd addresses.

Does anyone know what it means, and how we can access these sites ? Is there a common tool used in certain underground circles ? Or, are these sites and their users members of private virtual intranets, using VPN links through Internet and fake naming specs to restrict knowledge about them being online ?

If I worked for a police authority, I'd sure try to investigate this strange phenomenon.

Any answers from a good network admin ?

They are simply in the GG database because there is a link pointing to that address somewhere on the internet, GG adds such a link even though such a page doesn't exist. For example if somebody making a link to website accidently puts a dot instead of slash then they are linking to something that doesn't exist. for example look at the pages at: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=fi&q=+site:.guestbook&btnG=Hae&meta=

Many of the domains that look like:
www.dömain.com.guestbook

Will work if you replace the dot/s with a slash:
www.dömain.com/guestbook

Also when people are filling in guestbooks they submit all kinds of addresses in the form that asks for their website such as: www.no.thanks, www.no.website, www.i.does.not.have.a.website etc...

Somewhere there is even a link to: www.namepros (without the .com)
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=&...esearch=.namepros&as_occt=any&num=100&btnG=Go

Also for the .zz some of them are a result of mistyped links for .za domains.

Yes, you're right. Thank you for your answer.

I've tried these queries on some other popular engines like Altavista (host: command) and Exalead (site: command), who don't use the same pagerank technology as Google do, and it doesn't work.

That makes me wonder if the total number of indexed pages officially claimed by Google is accurate. If it keeps such odd results in its records, i guess not.

btw, if you don't know Exalead, u may want to give it a try at
www.exalead.com

It's truly a very nice engine, with maybe the best set of functions available. It was launched a few years ago by former inventors of Altavista technologies.
