Extension's part in ranking

Hi,
Do you think domain extension has any important role in google ranking?

I.E., has bingobongo.com more *importance* than bingobongo.info or bingobongo.ws for Google?

I would say NOT - but I'm still a SEO initiate

I dont think it does in any way.

It should not make it any more important if you have a .com or a .sh or any other extension.
There is no reason i can think of that a .com would do better in the engines than any other ext..

I've come to the conclusion that within the TLD's the extension doesn't (and shouldn't) make a difference.
When it comes to ccTLD's though there is (and should be) a difference. For example a search through google.com for "politics" should give added weight to politics.us over politics.de for the sake of relevance. Of course the same search at google.de should do the opposite.
So where does politics.ws fit????

I don't know about google but for yahoo the extension does matter, at least in my example.

I have an extremely basic website at poster.sg and the ONLY search engine referrals I receive are from Singaporean yahoo users. For a long time my website has been ranked #5 for the search term "posters". See: http://sg.search.yahoo.com/search?p=posters&y=Singapore&fr=FP-tab-web-t&toggle=1

I don't receive any non-yahoo or non-Singaporean search engine referrals. Does anyone have any other examples?

The amount of factors Google consider is undoubtedly large, and I think it probably does play a part in ranking, however small. What extensions Google prefers however is a different story.
If you think about it, if you had the exact same domain with all different extensions with the same site on it, they have to be ordered somehow.
