Expiring domain at Tucows

I am interested in acquiring a domain with the following status:

The parking page shows:

I don't understand why the expiration date is 2010 if the domain is expired/expiring. Can anybody shed any light on this?

and the owner can still renew it.

What you are seeing is the expiration date at the registry. The whois output from the registrar should tell 25-sep-2009. Registrars usually autorenew with the registry on behalf of client, as they have 45 days to cancel the 'preemptive' renewal, so they get a refund and send the domain to redemption. If they didn't - the name would fall into redemption from day one :gl:
