Exactly what makes a 3 char domain of any worth?

I was given a list of domains and now I'm wondering about the 3 chars, as I might put them up for sale. My questions are about the values of them. They are all .net/.org and all are letter/number mixes. That alone isn't worth much money but I was wondering-does anything truely make a 3 char domain valuable? Does a combination matter in valuation? Let's say LLN.ext Is that valuable? How about NLL.ext? What if a 3 char domain has 2 identical chars side-by-side? I might post a few for sale but I need to figure out exactly how much I should expect for them. Any ideas?

Note: I won't post any of the domains until I get an idea as to how I should price them.

(Mods: This is not an appraisal thread, so please do not move this post)

3 character .com prices are rising.
The lowest one is worth around $20 -imo

When there are 2 letters next to each other they are worth more.
You can sort them out by price from their letters (good or bad ones), if they mean anything/resemblance, or brandable.

Average ones are worth $20-$65
There are some very good ones out there for high dollars =]

Thanks for your reply :) What about 3 chars that look strikingly similar to a word like, say, 1aw.ext (with the first char being the number one, not the lette L)?

They are valuable because of the possible acronyms, and they are short, and all are taken.

I personally think they are valluable becuase they are easy to remember.

1. Enter the three letter in google an see what comes up.
2. Go to acronymfinder.com and see how many acrnoyms come up.
3. Go to a financial site and see if the three letters are a stock ticker code.
4. Is there some other marketable meaning or word you can make of it?
5. Does it end with "I" (Inc), "A" association, "C" Company, etc that would make it a very good company acronym.

The more possibilities, the better chance of a larger sale. I'd shy away from letter number combos unles you can derive some meaning from it (such as 4X4 or B2B) and market it that way.

Thanks-this is extremely valuable advice! I'll try these techniques and see what comes up :)

I find that LLN (letter letter number) 3 chars are worth a bit more than the others.

Good luck

Thanks. I have a bit of those. How about LNN? Or NLL? I have a bit of those in my vision, too.

Also: What extentions are worthless? Are .nets and .orgs of any real value? I'm guessing anything under a .org is worthless.

Although .com's still worth higher, but many new companies and sites are sprouting rapidly on the net so chances are your orgs and net may be worth fortune for these new companies.. .

As long as there are 3 character .nets/.org AVAILABLE to register, then their prices will suffer. The .coms have been long gone, hence the higher price.

:bingo:

That's very true. When the supply will go down, I think the demand will go up. I personally do have a 3-character .NET domain (LLN), and am not sure if I should hang on to it or not.
