I received an offer on a domain! Wa-hey....er no. It's one that I let drop while back :'( and didn't delete from my Sedo portfolio. Funny that the new owner hasn't noticed this either.

I suppose I'd better own up and let sedo know, to help the new owner. It's not that much anyway.

Ever happen to you?

Yes, I've had offers for several domains I didn't own. Sometimes in cases like yours where I either sold it or let it drop, and a couple cases of mistaken identity (or TLD identity).

In once case, I tried to buy it back for more than what I sold it for, to still sell it and make a profit from the second buyer. As I remember, it didn't work though and I couldn't get it back for less than the second offer.

It can be tough keeping up with what's listed where when you have many names and many registrars and many sales sites. Now, when I get an offer, I do an immediate whois to make sure I still own it and to see which registrar I need to verify at before accepting or countering.

I had dropped a domain six months before receiving an offer. After doing a whois, I noticed the registrar still had not cleared it out of their database. The expiration date was clearly marked as having expired six months previous, but still listed me as the owner. I am sure that was causing all sorts of consternation to the individual waiting to acquire it. I went in, paid the renewal fee and then resold the domain. Lucked out!

Nope, never happened to me. I must be keeping good track of my names.

Ok. Can I say Luuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkyyyyyyyyyyyy!. I only received an offer on a domain that was still good.

BTW - The buyers were la la's about it. IF only they read the expiry date in the whois. They could have bought the domain without you.

Your real big gain. Their loss.

somehow people always forget to change the whois even after I tell them to change it, and got a few nice offers on domains I sold. oh well if they would of kept the whois info correct the new owner would of got them and not me, eh? ;P

The Whois data for the domain I dropped has actually changed. It can't be listed in the new owner's Sedo account though.

Same happened to me at Godaddy on a 3 word adult name - was offered $1000 which I accepted - renewed it - buyer started escrow, but never followed through.

Think I'll send 'em a reminder.....

the best thing is the make sure the whois information is up to day. a couple of people could have gotten a better deal. they just were sleeping on the job. I got offered to sell a domain name I had let go. I did the same thing. I renewed the name then sold it of about $250. I got lucky. some people are just sleepers.
