I'm registering a ccTLD with EuroDNS which cost me almost $260 just to register. After paying, they sent an email asking for my passport number. Is this normal?

could be. You were honest during sign-up ?
Or your country has a high fraud level.

Eurodns are big time scammers, I wouldn't send them any private information and even less a passport number. They have high reg fees, nearly impossible to transfer or renew domains and they even charge on most extensions for DNS changes, which is crazy!

My only advice is to stay away from them, check their thread in the registrar reviews section, and it will confirm they are big scammers: http://www.namepros.com/domain-registrar-reviews/195032-eurodns.html

Is it from EuroDNS or the registry?
I've had to confirm my passport number to the Italian registry to confirm I am an EU citizen. Which I did without worry.

If it is from EuroDNS, it may be a case of them passing it to the registry to prove you're eligible for ownership of a domain in the extension.

I'm curious to which extension you're maying $260 for? (Or is it something like a .lt for multiple years)

Don't get me started on EuroDNS!!! I wouldn't go near them anymore after dealing with them in the past. They charge a fortune to renew, make it extremely hard to transfer out and are impossible to communicate with when needing to solve problems.

even trying to cancel out of renewal is a long repetitive process with euroDNS and they have itchy fingers on your credit card. They remind me of a variation on 1+1 the well-known crooks. Stay away.

I was about to use them...but...nevermind, I just remembered one of my friends losing a LLL.com for their incompetence.
