I love this time of year. Weather it's the euros or the world cup, I'll watch any football (soccer) Unfortunately, as a Scotsman I've not had my home country to support since the world cup in France 1998 :(

Today see's the kick off of Euro 2016 and as a Scotsman it is even worse as every other home nation has qualified, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Normally I support whoever is playing against England but, I think I have finally grown up and developed a respect and appreciation for England. This being said, it means in no way I'll be supporting them and cheering their goals but I wish them well.

I would like to see Belgium do well but I would be very happy to see Spain win the competition....

Who will you be supporting?

Nice cover of La Provence, Marseille daily. Hey fans: who will do better today: Ronaldo or Lewandowski?

Congratulations Gilsan on Portugal's win.

Yes, Portugal won narrowly, but it was more of lottery. Kudos to Rui Patricio for the superb shootout save.

Generally, everything looked dull and boring, at least to me.
Ronaldo could have put the final dot to the match at 85th minute of the game. Alas! he couldn't.

Given the resources at Portugal's disposal -
plethora of stars (Ronaldo, Pepe, Nani, Sanches, just to mention four ), reputation, experience and average monetary value per player - I think she lost the match on parity basis.

Portugal will need all the luck on this planet to win her next match.

I'm not liking the kind of football Portugal is playing. Seems like they are playing not to lose. So far they have managed to come back from several goal disadvantages and draw the game. Credit to the coach for that, but like @Joystal says Portugal are gonna need lots of luck or hopefully lots of good football to beat our next oponent, which, barring any big surprise will be Belgium.... a fantastic team.

CR7 has been completely shut out in these games.

Thanks... not a very convincing win, but a win just the same.

I said here 2 weeks ago that 18 year old Renato Sanches should be in the starting line-up. The coach finally heard me. Now I say in a loud voice, put Rafa in to play up front to liberate CR7 a bit. Rafa is a great little player that can change the game around, just like Renato

Can Iceland be added now to the poll atleast to get some percentage over England? :-P

This is the annoying thing about the poll, is that I could not edit the teams after I submitted it. Having said this, the poll was only open for 7 days but, Iceland are doing great.

I don't know how Portugal are into the semis, I think I'm right in saying they have not won a single game in the official 90 minutes? Good on them though.

It's true that they are not playing good football, it's true they have not won a single game in the official 90 minutes, but it's also true they have not lost either and on 4 occasions (3 with Hungary and once with Poland) they had to recover from the jaws of defeat.

Just like in the NBA where the basketball games can never end in a tie and must play into overtime to find a winner, so the same happens in football in the knockout stages. It's part of the game and you obviously know all about it.

Playing two 120 minute games is also exhausting for the players and an advantage for the next team (Belgium?) that plays us

We shall see

I'm torn for tonight, as a Scotsman I really want to see Wales do well as Scotland, Wales and Ireland all have our great history with our Celtic (Keltic) connections. The Belgians have such an exciting team though. Gareth Bale v Eden Hazard...... Let the games begin. This could potentially be one of the "games of the tournament" so far.

Having 4 teams from the British Isles + Ireland was quite a feat. Pitty Scotland spoiled the feast. Even though the best fans in the Euro in my opinion were the Irish, if the Scots would have come they would have been elected the best fans of all. They allways are.

How ironic, after the EU mocked England's double "Brexit", Great British Wales knocks out Brussels!
