.EU will NEVER be available to US citizens?

I just got an email from a friend saying he read the "Statements" at Eurodns which states that all .eu domains are retricted in definately. That even after the sunrise period, you MUST be a resident of the European Union to own a .eu domain.

I read throught it and I think I can see his point. I guess the only question that is unclear is whether or not the residency restriction is ONLY during the sunrise period or "forever".

Any thoughts?

There are many ways to get around it. For example, I know a guy who lives over there. I could pay him to register domains on my behalf. I'm not that worried about getting .eu's anyway though.

Quick question, does an exchange student from another country in EU count as a resident of the European Union?

Hey I know in regards to pre-registration, you must be an EU resident or have a business there in order to register a .EU, but will anybody be able to register them after they go public on April 7, or does the policy still hold?

Still applies ,although some Registrars are offering a "Eu Presence service" similiar to what is already offered for .DE names

Could you please tell me who any of these registrars are? Thanks.

I don't know what an exchange student is, but regardless where they live, all the citizens who resides in a state of the EU are considered the same in all the EU states, with the same rights.
As the US citizens are all americans the EU citizens are all europeans,
Do this answer to your question?

A .eu registrar gave me some links to a few sites that do legitimate online corporate registrations in the EU. You dont have to be a "resident" of the EU to buy and hold a .eu. That is only one of the potential ways to be a legitimate holder - here are some others:

According to EU regulations and in order to register a .EU domain you must
meet one of the following criteria:

From http://www.eurid.eu/en/general/howToGetEuDomainName :

1) undertakings having their registered office, central administration or
principal place of business within the European Community;
2) organisations established within the European Community without
prejudice to the application of national law;
3) natural persons resident within the European Community.

I registered a legitimate UK bassed limited company (over the internet) with a regsistered office in London. This is a real company. That company can own .eu domains. Unfortunately I can only buy pre-reg land rush and post land rush domains because I'm not a registered trademark holder.

Peace,
Tarry G

PS As an aside - it was kind of wierd trying to come with great names to register. I'm so "two word" focused in the dot com arena that it was wierd to "re-think" as if almost anything can be bought! :)

The United States is not in the European Union, and neither is Canada. So you probably can't. :td:

EU Domain Reg Guidelines for US Residents

I have been reading the posts in reference to EU domains. I am an EU Citizen, with a valid EU passport, I currently work and live in the USA, and I was denied an application for an EU domain based on the fact that my current residential address is in the USA even though I am an EU citizen and probably intend to go back to Europe after my job contract expires.

Hope this helps explain a lot of questions that folks have regarding Exchange Students and EU Citizenship.

Resident is not the same as citizen. So for my exchange student question, a student from US with US passport/citizenship, studying and currently living in German for a couple years. Can this person register .eu under the current restrictions?

As far as i know, godaddy verifies your credit card source and your registered address for restricted ccTLDs.

The term resident means, you can be foreign citizen as long you have the right to live and work legally in the European Union. Having said that you should have EU bank account and so on.

For those americans without the luxury of IREIT still can register .EU provided you have EU friends willing to registed .EU names then transfer them to your EU addressed godaddy account. You can borrow your friends address and keep your login safe with you.
ITs not EU citizen but resident.
