Is this normal at Epik ?

A few of my .org domains that expired on around 21st to24th December have been asked to renew with redemption fees.
I assumed a grace period of atleast 30 to 40 days

Is this a normal practice at Epik ?

    @Rob Monster
    @Intelliname

    Thanks

Free grace renewal is technically not mandatory anywhere, but when moved to redemption at the registry, redemption fees almost always apply.
The best would be to contact them directly and see if they can wave it (and if there was any error at moving it to redemption)

Yes. Grace period is just 15 days at Epik as far as I know.

Everyone that has the NP pricing should automatically have the 30 days. Whats as annoying is they lock your domain down (gray locked) the second it expires. Not sure how kosher that is. You should be allowed to transfer out during the grace period easily.

Nope. Not the case. On day 15 say good bye to your domain. It will actually disappear from your panel, nameservers get updated and it's listed for sale (make offer) by them.

If you want more than 15 days they'll have to set it manually.

They don't move it to redemption I think. Domains status states autoRenewPeriod. So unless I'm mistaken it's not a fee imposed at the registry level.

Standard grace period is 15 days. That said, NP members can usually get courtesy restores upon request, assuming there was no backorder.

Grace period can also be extended upon request. For eligible TLDs, it can be up to 35 days but usually people who need that much grace period have broken business models.

Also, after day 15 of expiry, domains are not eligible for NameLiquidate, which is the other reason why 15 day is set as default since most will want to take advantage of that.

For those not aware, with NameLiquidate, the registrant keeps 91% of the proceeds from monetizing their own expiry stream.

    Hello @Rob Monster

    Thanks for your reply.
Please extend the grace period to 35 days for my account.

    I don't use Name Liquidate.
But I will check it for future use..

I will send you a PM with my account details.

During the grace period, we cannot transfer out the domain.
we should be allowed to transfer out during grace period at least.

So every other registrar offering the 30 plus days of grace period (without needing to beg for it) are doing so because we have “broken business models”? Are you kidding— that is a really rude and condescending to domainers.

I think Epik has the broken business model, a bad attitude and exerts way too much control over other people’s domains. Not shocked you aren’t the world’s favorite registrar this time around with replies like this.

So you no longer have Afternic, PayPal and you also refuse to give all NP the industry standard 30 day redemption period unless we ask permission. We should not have to ask. It should be automatic. Control freak much?

Also what is your excuse for not letting us transfer out during grace period?

It's more of a cashflow issue, if everyone was to late renews, registrars would lose on cashflow.
They have to pay for a renewal until it's marked as deleted within the correct time frames at the registry
Plus, renewing early should be a best practice; They are not obliged to offer 30 day grace renewals, and if they allow it, they also can refuse it at any point to anyone. It's playing with risks.
What is mandatory is allowing registrants to renew during Redemption

They aren’t required but his reply insulting us wasn’t right. Its not required but given easily elsewhere. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for the reply.

    Still waiting...

    Sent PM to Rob.
    Sent emails to their support.

The 'extended grace period' was restored for a short while and than
    switched back to redemption.

Not related to this specific thread, the general Epik thread would have been better :/
However, not sure it's a bad sign they decided to welcome them, Can you post your comment in the other thread so comments on it are correctly located on nP ?
