This is a total catastrophe and failure for the World and humanity at large. There are some things that surpass national boundaries and borders like Human Rights and certain Environmental issues that affect the whole Globe which surely should be of concern to all of us. Whether it’s the Oceans and Rivers that have been polluted or whether it’s our air and soil that have been poisoned, it all has something to do with human activity like the Global Warming and the Melting of the Ice Caps and Glaciers which is going to put many coastal Cities and Communities under water soon. IMO

Everyone’s opinions are welcomed, but keep your comments constructive, professional, and on topic. Personal attacks and belittling of others are not tolerated.

The meme clearly depicted women's underwear getting smaller over time, suggesting a correlation with global warming. I thought the follow up comment was clearly relevant to the meme. I think what I've witnessed in the previous posts is a prime example of why PC culture is degrading our social fabric.

...and as the fabric degrades, women's underwear continues to get smaller (obviously).

Some of what you might have witnessed in the previous discussions that has come across as degrading the social fabric to you simply could be because it was an opposing view from what you might like the society to look like, but that is engaging in a general discussion and debate between opposing points of view and is different than degrading women by making them the subject of your jokes.

I don't think either of us want to take this topic very far. But for the sake of learning something from this experience, I'll ask: what about anything Gilsan posted was degrading to women?

I don't think many Women find his meme to be in good taste. After all we are supposed to be having professional discussions here. Perhaps a little humor here and there might be okay but not at the cost of making fun of a certain group or class of people (in this case Women).

That doesn't really answer the question. You're just reiterating that he degraded women. But how, is his content degrading women, specifically?

I didn't say that all his content was degrading, as the matter of fact he has made a lot of good posts in this thread that were informative and engaging, but his last meme was not appropriate as it made Fun of a Certain Group of People (in this case Women) and as such was degrading.

IMO

PS: That's all I have to say on this subject, nevertheless he is welcomed to stay and contribute more to the cause that we are all concerned about here, all I ask is for him to be more sensitive about others.

You still haven't answered the question. You say he did it, but you don't specify what about the content was degrading. But I'm happy to move on. I don't think you really know the answer.

I have answered your question already,

The act of making fun of any group of people based on their race, religion, gender, national origin, ethnicity, or gender identity and preference is degrading not only to that group, but to the society at large. If you don't understand this very basic concept that is supposed to be at the heart of our civil society then I don't know how to explain it any other way.

Specifically, what about the content would cause a woman to take offense? I don't see it.

And, why would it have been any better for Gilsan to have included men in his statement. ...so he could have degraded both sexes? By your logic,

There was degrading done.
This degrading was against women.
Such degrading is not ok.

But, if

There was degrading done.
This degrading was against men and women.
Such degrading is ok.

I don't see the element of degradation to begin with, so I actually don't think he would have degraded men by coupling them in with women in his statement. He just would have taken a decent joke and watered it down.

I was hoping you had a more profound explanation to offer, but as I suspected, this is going farther than I want to take it, yet it's not going anywhere at the same time.

If you say Humans look funny if they walk on all fours then that might pass as a joke (although maybe not a very good one), but if you said a certain group of people based on the race, religion, gender or certain other aspects that are associated with that group looked funny if they walked on all fours then that's not a joke anymore, you now have crossed the line, I am sure that you know these principles as they have been around for a while now, I guess you just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

The logic is very simple, making fun of any group of people based on their race, religion, gender, national origin, ethnicity, color of skin, disability, deformity, genetic composure, or gender identity and preferences is degrading and should not be accepted as the norm in a civil society.

IMO

I like this thread to get back on focusing on its original purpose which is discussing the problems that our home Planet and the World at large are facing.

Regarding the CA fires, specifically, I’ll state that the recent prevalence is rather suspicious to me. All of the fires I’ve seen have started near roadways. I’m not going to suggest arson is a common cause, but I presume careless cigarette disposal could easily be the cause when arson is not. I believe some of the fires were concluded to have been the result of infrastructure that had failed, but I don’t believe this to be nearly as prevalent as the others I mentioned.

Since climate change seems to be a theme in this thread, I’ll post this vid and see if anyone with a science background has any thoughts. I’ll tap @Bob Hawkes just so I know one savvy set of eyes finds it. I don’t know whether this thread is your cup of tea, Bob. Feel free to DM me if you’d like.

Nowadays careless cigarette disposal might be considered a form of arson, in addition to anything else that can start brush fires such as throwing glass bottles out of the car which can act as magnifying glasses and cause the dry twigs to ignite or making camp fires and using barbeque grills outdoors during the dry season (or not putting them out properly) or even parking or driving your car over dry brushes which might get ignited by the heat from your car's exhaust system.

Being careless with cigarettes is not any less than arson specially for those who are in the habit of throwing their lit cigarettes around. As I am sure you are aware of fortunately in almost all cases satellite imagining and other surveillance methods can track down those who start brush fires regardless of whether it was done by accident or as a form of intimidation.

Just finishing this up on Netflix - Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates. About Bill, his/wife's foundation, working on Polio/other diseases, better toilets, better ideas for Nuclear reactors, etc. Nice to see smart people working on things. T-shirt seen:

"Science is like magic, but real"

Trump screwed things up with some contract with China in regards to the reactors, last 15 minutes of show.

Agree. Maybe they can use some of their billions to persuade those in power to act.

You don't need billions, you just need a voice that is based on logic and compassion in order to create awareness and put the right wheels in motion (like Greta) , although it helps to have billions of dollars so that you can undertake some of the necessary tasks yourself instead of trying to persuade others to do them.

Just registered the domain name ClimateVlog.com

If I get a chance I am going to make it in to a scientific and factual reference of how the Climate has been and is continuing to change according to satellite imagery and other visual materials so that people can see for themselves that Climate Change is actually accelerating and that it won't be long before we reach the point of no return.

UN Climate Change Conference - December 2-13, 2019 COP25

https://unfccc.int/cop25
Just in time the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) published a report last week that atmospheric levels of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) reached the highest ever recorded in human history in 2018.

Link to the article: axios.com/carbon-dioxide-highest-level-in-human-history

Attached to the article is the WMO Bulletin with scientific details, no easy to read stuff.

Events at COP 25:

I see this is a biannual event. Does anyone know when the UN started hosting these forums?
This will be interesting to follow.
