The greatest scam on earth has to be to fund the launch of new domain extensions, engineer some inside false sales (remember .mobi?), and sit back and watch silly domain investors spend a fortune on horrendous domains with extensions that will never catch on with the mass populace.

And it'll keep happening until people wise up. Every single year.

Look at this: http://dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm

See anything in common? All notable sales are .com, .net, and cctld's that are actually used commonly in that country. And that's been the case as long as I can remember, which is about 12 years :). New extensions on the list? I simply don't believe they're not inside deals to boost sales. Web.hosting may be the one exception - it's a good name, but what's it doing? It's redirecting to a .com. Inside deal to boost sales of .hosting.

.xyz? Considering it's the 4th most regged gtld, where are the .xyz sites people visit? Where are the reseller sales of xyz? A lot of 2-3 character xyz's sold, but to whom and why? Yes, I know Alphabet/Google has an .xyz. So what? They obviously weren't going to get abc.com.

I could be wrong about .xyz - it could end up being an actual extension people get used to. That would make it a HUGE exception.

For every big, legitimate sale of a new extension, there must be hundreds of thousands or millions of sales that are just an outright waste of time and money.

WISE UP!!!!!

I reckon this is a big part, this oversaturation and confusing glut of crappy extensions, combined with outright robbery by parking companies in terms of RPC, why domaining (in terms of making any real money) is such a waste of time these days for all but a very small percentage of people.

The only other extension that will make any sense apart from the BIG 3 is: .GO
It doesn't exist yet but it should.

Domains are like addresses so .go is the next big thing that doesn't exist yet. Ya'll hear this from me first.

@rivey001 - .WEB should do well with Verisign behind it. IMHO.

.web came to mind too. It will do well I agree, but it won't challenge .com because it's sounds too familiar. .Go would change everything... It's new and make sense. And it's a call to action.

It's always possible with a big backer that a new extension could come to prominence.. but I haven't seen it happen yet.

Any release date for .web?

Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over expecting different results yet they keep releasing new ones.

but .web doesn't fit into repeating itself. It has much bigger potential than all the others (maybe combined) :)

There is always an exception. I mean dot com isn't the only one that works.

New extensions are meant for domainers who can wait for 5-10 years to see whether they become successful or not (make big money or lose everything).

I don't know why normal investors are going after them when they don't have that kind of time period or loss bearing capacity.

.com investment is already an illiquid investment......new extensions....risky and much more illiquid investments.
