new gtlds Are All .XYZ Domain Name Sales Real?

Are all .xyz domain name sales real? Over the weekend some articles and comments came out saying that a lot of the .xyz sales are just publicity stunts.

The truth is that .xyz does not have the best reputation in the domain name industry and anything related to domain name sales or registration numbers is treated as highly suspicious.

Are all auctioned domain names being paid for? Of course not. This applies to all auctions including Namejet, Go Daddy, Flippa, Snapnames, etc. and any domain name extension. Just by looking at the auction results you can’t tell if a domain name will eventually be paid for or not.

But people are also accusing the .XYZ registry of something else. They are saying that some domains are indeed paid by the buyers in the auction houses but that money partly (or wholly) comes from the .xyz registry. They accuse .xyz registry of pumping the .xyz sales so it appears that .xyz domains are very expensive and desirable.

It's sad news to other ntlds as well as .xyz.
I hope negari tell the truth.
If you keep doing something no matter how quietly you try to do it, in the end you would be caught.

This looks like they've been caught. All their high dollar sales look like they may be shill bids. Negari comes off like he would do something like this anyway. His "offer" to buy a couple of failing gtlds from a company he owns stock in is just another example of deceptive business practices. The SEC should get involved on this one.

They pumped up these sales amounts and the sales numbers for registrations to help sell a bad gtld. I wouldn't put anything past this guy.

That's a good news for DOTCOMS. No wonder all the businesses, end users, and investors prefer dotcom domains. Dotcom gives you clarity and good returns on your investments.
All other nGTLDS ==> PUMP and DUMP ==> Quick Ponzy $cheme.
Rich people and registries have already made a lot of money, and have disappeared. These revelations are only going to hurt the naive and gullible domain investors.
Peace!

Well we at least know the abc.xyz sale to google was real. I'm not sure about any other "premiums".

I don't hear any xyz fans getting into this thread. @betthelot had the first thread on this topic. I couldn't find it this morning. There was some good info in it.

@brindle123
My friend, we are not talking about one sale or many sales, it just boils down to CREDIBILITY and TRUST :)

Conspiracy theories with no real proof. Who's next .top and .club? They forgot to mention them.

I am anxious about this.
This is .XYZ GATE.B-)
Truth must appear ASAP.

That's the tip of the iceberg! Lots of my fellow domainers here at NP, who have heavily invested in these nGTLDs, are in DENIAL...
I'm expecting a barrage of ridicule and criticism by committing this so-called blasphemy ;)

This would be the second XYZ gate. Mind you, this accusation is much much more serious than the first one which was proven true that XYZ inflated their numbers by giving away 400,000 for free last year to people who never even requested a XYZ domain.

Great publicity for .xyz, keeps them in the news, top of the threads, Google etc.. It cracks me up how one or two articles with no actual proof, all speculation can make everyone jump on board yelling guilty.

Like I said .top has had some very high sales too, along with .club so come on where's the proof?

The thing is I'm not sure it actually matters whether the sales are fake or not. XYZ is just an extension, people will either use it or not, any underhandedness going on behind the scenes don't really affect end users because at the end of the day they will only ever pay as much as they want for a name.
For most end users who don't know anything about domains, the fact that Google is using the extension is a good enough reason for them to pick it. Of course, it's slightly different for domainers who are looking to profit from the names they've payed a premium for but even then I don't think there is need to be alarmed.
For one, we don't know for a fact that this is true. Second, it is clear that XYZ can't be all hype, because of all new gtlds, it is the one that is most actively being used for real verifiable projects. There are already tons of websites in the wild that make use of the XYZ extension.

Did you guys see that over 70% of .xyz domains are parked? That seems pretty high.

For comparison, only 56% of .work domains are parked.

and 88% of .top domains are parked.

That means, these parked domains belong to speculative buyers. If they don't sell them soon, the renewal fee would start biting them real hard ==> the reality would sink in ==> these parked domain would eventually start dropping like hot-potatoes :D
