i thought it would be real nice to share some of the emails i receive from fellow domainers trying to sell their crappy names.

hopefully, some of you will read these and stop sending or see the mistakes they make so you won't make them too.

here is one from Andrew Brad, and if he is a member here...he's a clown! why? because he included every other email address he sent this mail to. thus one could harvest his list and spam them too.

To whom it may concern,

The premium generic aged domain FREDLOYAINSURANCE.NET is up for sale and I am emailing several parties that have registered similar domains OR use "[fredloya], [fredloya insurance], [loya insurance], [fred loya claims], [fredloya locations] etc." as keywords in their advertising campaigns. This is a 6-year old domain, with no drops since it was registered in 2006.

According to the Google Traffic Estimator the keywords ‘Fredloya Insurance’ receive over 40,500 searches every month, thus making this a high SEO premium domain worth thousands of dollars.

Right now, the asking price for FredLoyaInsurance.net is just $250, and is available on a first-come-first-served basis. Yes, you read it right, $250 ONLY.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a great domain at a throw-away price. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me an email or call me directly at +91. 939-2774-412.

All transactions will held either via Paypal or via the secure services of Escrow.com.

Best regards,

Andrew Brad

A real shame that quality domains are 'promoted' like that, in fact their value is hurt by the unwanted exposure.

I received this email over the weekend:

saber-and-sword-collector.com is your domain name, correct?

From:
"Richard Everett" <[email protected]>
Add sender to Contacts
To:
Hello,

Since you are listed as the owner of saber-and-sword-collector.com, maybe you'd be interested in having a similar domain from this list:

CollectOriginals.com
CollectAmericana.com
AmericanaCollector.com
USACollectible.com

If you're not interested or I've reached you by mistake, please excuse this message. On the other hand, if you are curious about something above (or possibly other domains that are not listed), feel free to ask.

Sincerely,
Richard Everett

P.S. Here are some good reasons to think about owning an additional domain. Not all of them apply in this case, but they might be worth thinking about:

1. Upgrade to a better extension like .com.
2. Shorten your website's name to something more memorable, better for word of mouth, and easier to type in or search for.
3. Protect your brand from websites with confusingly similar names.
4. Get rid of hyphens, which are obstacles for people trying to type in your address and can look unprofessional.
5. Brand yourself with something more catchy or more authoritative.
6. Gain additional traffic from people who are already searching the internet but might be missing you.
7. Create a supplemental page with links to your primary website or a new site for a new project.
8. Focus on related keywords and niches for an SEO boost.
9. Invest in premium domain names for long-term appreciation in value.
10. In the case of country-code TLDs like .co.uk or .com.au, upgrade to an extension with worldwide reach -- for example, .com.

"we thought" is common phrase used by these numb nuts, but if "they thought" before sending....they wouldn't.

i get loads of these every day, from the typical 'domain inquiry/'domain opportunity' to random names selling domains where the price always ends in '88' and the subject is aways RE: Buy domain name here.

rather than just pasting the emails, what can we do to shut these people down?

Received one more...

Funny, he uses $1288 for everything like it's some sort of lucky number. He also spelled it wrong. It's telefono in spanish.

These kind of people are the reason emailing endusers is so hard.

They feel like we are either some idiot asking a fortune for a domain or that we are trying to scam them somehow.

That's why when I am only looking for low to mid xxx I send my emails with prices. It's been working lately.

This explains why I've more or less gave up on emailing. I'm ridding of a large chunk of my domains relatively cheap (see my sig) because emailing ppl seems nearly impossible these days -- that is, if you're expecting a sale.

It's not the only reason I'm wiping myself virtually clean (again, see the thread I link to in my sig) but you get the idea.

Since you own similar brand domains, we thought that you might be interested in acquiring this one as well. We are sending this email to several parties, and the first one to reply back will get the deal. If you are interested, please reply back soon.

Thanks

For a start, report them to the registrar, ISP and webhost.

For the OBVIOUS spam this is one thing - but some of the names in here are just people trying to make a $ - no different from many of the people posting here.

I think there are clear lines but it seems to me that some people are judging others far more harshly than they judge themselves.

I also notice that most spammers use American-sounding fake names for themselves. Is it because Americanized names are more trustworthy???

You would see names like "Perry West" or "Gina Smith" whose IP address traces back to India.

But you would rarely see a spammer using names like "Mohesh Grandishvili" or "Xian Pao Shang".

Even I had criticized many in this thread. And they all deserve it IMO. Now, IF I received a genuine email with personalize content & something that took longer than 15 seconds to write, it'd be different. When some asshole pastes an email into a client & shoots it off to damn-near anyone, that person is nothing more than the common spammer idiot who has no idea what to do & resorts to spam since it's all he understands. Send me a real proposal and I'll at least reply with a kind, "No thanks." Copying/pasting the same email template 300,000 others use & shooting it out is unprofessional & it kills (not hurts but KILLS) pretty much all chance of a legit domain owner ever making a sale.

I've seen a few Asian & Indian names but yeah, I've noticed "Americanization" in names used, too.

Absolutely agreed. What's funny is I've looked at most of these emails being posted and even the ones that are written in rational and coherent form are being bashed. Jealousy/Frustration perhaps?

If these idiots sending this crap would put forth any effort to actually finding an end-user, along with composing a viable, relevant and worthwhile email, then we wouldn't be profiling them on here because they would be emailing end-users, not other domainers!

Noobs are one thing, but these jokers are merely spamming other domainers in an attempt at either phishing or hacking. Most likely very few, if any at all, are legit domainers trying to make a sale or earn a living.

Not jealousy or frustration. But simply getting lumped together with the rest of the garbage.

And to think that A LOT of domainers, are actually on the SELLING MODE. So if you are selling your stuff to someone who is trying to dispose his own stuff, you will just be pissing him off.

Even if there written in rational and coherent form, there almost always either a very poor stretch to say its related to the domain that cause them to email. Or that the name is not remotely an improvement/interesting.

They bring domaining down to the point where endusers "hang up" on domainer emails. Its this that bothers me, but just the email in of itself doesnt bother me.

I do hate the emails from SEO people looking for work though!!! Because they tend to be smarter and tittle their emails in a way that makes me think I got an enduser writing me, only to see its a dam SEO dude. lol

I am an End-User. And i already reached that "hang up" point already.

I figured that if i need a domain, i know exactly how to find it. You just type the domain in your Firefox browser (Google or whatever), see what comes up. So if you are a domainer who owns the domain i am looking for, you better post your contact rap sheet on that webpage if it's for sale. That's it.

If i needed to research variations of the domain i want, i can do all sorts of wild card queries on DomainTools.

Having said that, i would rather you "Don't call me. I'll call you". Translated to: "Don't email me. I'll email you if i want you".

Of course, i'm just one statistic end-user opinion. Perhaps there are other end-users who love getting proposals and enjoying all the sales talk BS.

Spam is spam. When an untargeted or loosely targeted E-mail is sent in bulk to tens or hundreds of people, it spam and need to be called out as such.

Spam is a problem because of sheer volume, too many people are spamming their crap.

Today I think around 85% of global E-mail traffic is spam, that is unacceptable. Also remember that that stupid domain related spam is hurting us all. It gives a bad name to our industry. It also makes end user feel that we are desperate losers and they are doing us a favor when they offer $100 for a LLL.com.

Another example: you own xxxxxxxxxxx.org and somebody contacts you to offer xxxxxxxxxxx.com or the other way round, the exact same domain in another extension - weaker or better. If the seller contacted just you and possibly a few other persons like the holder of the hyphenated version it doesn't look like spam. But if your domain is parked for sale on Sedo, it sounds obvious you are a domainer, then don't try to sell your domains to a fellow domainer. Because it's almost guaranteed your offer is not welcome.

You see, it's not just about carefully identifying the possible buyers, you need to do research. But the spammers are too dumb and lazy.

I think there are clear lines but it seems to me that some people are judging others far more harshly than they judge themselves.
"Treat others like you would like other to treat you :tu:"
