Emailing an End-user while still under GD 60 day lock

Hi everyone! I'm curious how you all go about emailing an end-user while the domain name is still under GoDaddy 60 day lock? I've learned that during those 60 days you are only allowed to push the name to someone that also has a GD account. While someone like a reseller is completely aware of this restriction, I'm sure there are MANY end-users that are not.

So what tactics do you use to explain this policy to end-users? Do you mention that they must sign up for a GD account in the initial email? Do you bring it up later? Has anyone had any problems with this at all?

One more thing- is the 60 day rule only on brand new names, or does it also apply to names I just regged that have age on them as well?

Thank you! :D

Well in fact it's quite simple, just do not use Godaddy if their policies are hurting your sales. There are enough competing registrars.

When a gTLD is transferred to another registrar (or a fresh registration), it cannot be transferred to another registrar again for 60 days - this is an Icann rule.
Godaddy also locks down domains for 60 days when critical changes are made to the whois record (like admin E-mail or holder name I think). But this has nothing to do with Icann policy.

If you have names stuck at Godaddy wait for at least 60 days before you try to sell them actively. So buyers are completely free to accept a push at Godaddy or transfer the name to their favorite registrar.
In the meantime you can park them and see if by chance they have got any traffic.

Not having domains at Godaddy is not big issue, because some registrars allow you to expedite the transfer requests, so the buyer could take custody of the domain within one hour or less... not much longer than a regular push.

I'm currently trying to close a sale with a fresh reg domain.

I just told the enduser to open an account at Godaddy. I let them know that it's real easy, no credit card needed, and that they can set the nameservers and put the domain on "auto renew" so that they wouldn't need to login to Godaddy afterwards.

Still haven't closed the sale but it shouldn't be a big deal if the enduser is really interested.

Keep it simple... (since Go daddy is the big domain gorilla and most people know this already)

In your enduser letter, simply say... "and the domain can be transferred to your go daddy account in a few minutes" .

Most of your buyers like the simplicity of getting the domain a few minutes. Stress that!!

Later on if they say, how do I get a go daddy account ..you can explain the procedures... but dont complicate your sale with that..

(60 day rule applies to all Go daddy names...) and everytime its pushed to another go daddy account they restart the 60 day timer, which is a very very questionable procedure :( )

Most other registrars abide by the 60 day rule BUT the total hold is only 60 days time regardless how many times its pushed internally...

I told them how to do it after we had already agreed on a price. This was way after the initial pitch.

Thank you for all the tips everyone! I feel much more confident emailing end-users now knowing it isn't (or doesn't have to be) such a big deal. I think I'll go with making them aware that it can be pushed to their godaddy account in minutes, as mitch007 suggested.

I use Godaddy alot. I will tell you what is easy. After we agree on a price I request details of the company and name they wish to act as a registrant. Then I set another godaddy account with their details move the domain into that account and then forward them the username and password. %100 of my customers are happy with this. They log in and just have to check if the domain is there and funds sail my way.
Be sure to let them know you will be setting up an account on their behalf.

It is free to setup a GoDaddy account. Registering domains is where fees are incurred. When you push (Transfer to new account at the same registrar) the domain you are simply changing the account associated with the name. The owner is only charged for the domain at the time of renewal. However, it is not usually free to transfer a domain from one registrar to another.

Ok, I see. I didn't realize account setup is free or that pushing a domain to another user meant that the responsibility (and therefore cost) of renewal at expiration now falls on the end buyer. Thanks for your response!

@njstaci - just tell the buyer that you will only conclude the sale with a push to another GoDaddy account. Most end-users trust GoDaddy, so normally it isn't a problem. If they complain about the 60 day hold, it's because they are a domainer, not an end-user.

@sdsinc - It only when the Registrant company or personal name changes that the lock is imposed. Not the email address. Now you could argue that it should include the email address, but I think GoDaddy are correct not to include that. So it's only on a clear attempt to change the Registrant that this 60 day hold is invoked. It's been a PITA for me, like everyone else, but if it prevents/catches some domain thefts, I'm all for it.

I can use EMAIL FORWARDING - 100 PACK only 60 days after I registered domain, is that right ?

@NinoMNE - I don't understand why you are asking this here. Just go to GoDaddy and purchase their service.

I am asking cause I want to contact end users and understood that with every new domain I bought I have FREE EMAIL FORWARDING - 100 PACK, but when I want to "MANAGE" domain and "Create new account" for Email, it doesnt allow me to check box for email (place with Email, Calendar, Files ).

Edit: Ok, solved the problem. Instead "Create" , I should click "Create forward"...Saw video tutorial where clicking "Create" so that confused me.

Mitch hit the nail on the head, just stress they can have the domain within minutes and after 60 days they can transfer it to a registrar of their choice if they need with hardly any, if any service interruptions to their site.

As for using GD emails for E-Mailing end users I personally wouldn't as GD can be strict on outgoing mail as they get a high volume of outgoing spam through their IPs. Which could also mean your emails will just end up in the end user's spam folder.

Googleapps seems a popular tool if you need to use another outbound mail server, or just get a vps with a good IP!

Some members report Godaddy will demand a fee $xx-xxx when end user report spamming at [email protected]. Does pushing the domain name to another Godaddy account before send out email to end user is viable?
