I hand-registered a recently deleted domain five days ago (found via ExpiredDomains) with the intent to outbound it. I have a specific buyer in mind and I would be surprised if they don’t hit the BIN.

The domain is registered at Spaceship and is already listed for sale on Spaceship SellerHub. Since registered, it’s still well within the 60-day transfer lock period.

My question is: Should I disclose this 60-day lock when I reach out to the buyer?

I don’t want to come off as misleading, especially if they want to transfer the domain to existing registrar (which is not Spaceship) and can’t do so right away. On the other hand, I don’t want to overcomplicate the message or create unnecessary friction.

What’s the best practice here? Curious to hear how others handle this.

Don't worry about that. Just do your outbound. If he buys it, Afternic (or whatever platform you used to list the domain) will explain the 60-day lock to the buyer. If he's okay with it, they can push the domain to him if he creates a Spaceship account. If he's not in a rush, he can simply wait the 60 days. I've sold many domains that way

Hi

why can’t you wait 60 days before soliciting?

then that won’t be an issue

imo….

I once asked a register why I hadn't got a domain name. They told me after I paid that the reason a few weeks has passed without me owning domain is because it is locked at a different register. I ended up waiting about 3 weeks to get it. That being said if your buyer is serious he should buy through spaceship or afternic will just make him wait which is fine too. I wouldn't bother telling buyer

Thanks so much — really appreciate your clear and straightforward reply! I will proceed.

What do you think about Spaceship vs Afternic as of today? I'm so over Afternic, but man it's nice to have that LTO option for outbound.

Lease to own is nice. A lot of the big sales can be on namepros. I'd say Afternic is good and so is spaceship. Really spaceship needs to be better established and get more traffic. I suspect in a year or two spaceship will be as well know (as the same company is) as well as namecheap.

Hi

you’re not being forthright with the potential buyer if you don’t disclose the 60 day lock at the registrar, in your solicitation.

honestly still counts in my book

imo…

Personally, I generally hold fresh regs for the duration of the 60-day lock prior to doing any outbound/outreach (Let them marinate a bit). If someone comes to me before that, I'll tackle it then and suggest an easy push between accounts at the same registrar (where they can create an account for free).

If they insist on a 3rd party transfer, I'll either stall negotiations (If there is only 1 to 3 weeks left) to hit the 60-days, or I'll provide full disclosure of the 60-days (If there's no way around it).

However, in most (If not all) cases, nobody will close within the 60-days or be against a push within the same registrar.

I have a spreadsheet just for 60-day lock domains so I know which ones are ready to go throughout a month (My next 2 are about to green-light Aug 1st for outbound)... Getting pumped for it ;)

I wish you luck, what ever you decide (Patience is a virtue)

Hi Eric, just seeing this now. I've barely been on NamePros as of late...I've just been out there learning in the trenches.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed response. I really appreciate the time you took to share your methodology. I've essentially been doing the same over the last couple months...listing the names, seeing what the traffic is like, and sometimes it just sells on its own. If still holding after 60 days, then I hit the inboxes and phones. I feel like outbounding is a cheat code for domains <$10K. Of course, I'm buying names that are prime for outbound...I'm sure you know what I mean : )

Also, an extra thank you for your bigger, round-up style posts around the forums (e.g. outbounding resources). I always enjoy reading them and they’ve been a big help in my journey.

Right on! Thanks.

You may find the ccTLD analysis I do daily interesting as well, in the ccTLD discussion section. 😉

I usually wait 60 days before any outbound, but it’s okay to reach out to a buyer without any delay. Some buyers may lower the value if they see the domain was just registered.
