Eliminate NP$ for Posts?

After getting so many short, meaningless, or unrelated posts to many of my threads (and seeing the same on others), what can we do to combat people who apparently post just to accumulate NP$? Any suggestions?

Should we eliminate NP$ for posts entirely in certain segments? Enable NP$ for posts only after a certain level of Rep has been established? Ideas?

Of course they can just set up an account wait a few weeks and then when they think it counts start spamming. I think just do what the US does convict first ask questions last.

That why i said if suc ha system was implemented it be like 1 month of activity...

definfing activity is then another problem, but the sraff can do it or poll us...

Perhaps you could keep the jabs at America out of this topic. :|

Perhaps we should reward people who start interesting threads more and people who give generic replies less.

I think human beings have to be involved somewhere in this.

At the moment the site faq says the following:

Earning NameBucks

* Each post and reply + 2 NP$ in domain related forums
* Each post and reply + 1 NP$ in Break Room forum
* Each post and reply + 0 NP$ in marketplace

From what is written above, I think it needs updating.

The FAQ also says:

# New threads can also receive a bonus of 1 to 15 NP$ based on the number of replies and views by other members.
# NP$ bonuses may be awarded periodically for referring new actrive members. Screening may be done to prevent fake new accounts.

Maybe the bonus for new threads should be increased based on interestingness/number of replies. Also, maybe a bonus could be awarded to members who are seen to be contributing. For instance the member of the month vould receive a prize of 1000 NP etc.

Hey! Good idea! Lol, no.. actually the MOTM already gets 495 NP$ AND $25 cash via PayPal...

One feature I've suggested that I've seen implemented elsewhere tho, is a Buy Me A Beer feature.. if the post is worthy, people can click to buy the poster a "beer" (PayPal donation)... now that's something I could go for! lol

BTW- a Buy Me A Beer button would be great in the Sales threads.. you could set it for your sales price.

Something like that could be implemented with NP$

I'd thought of that, but it kinda excludes those who are short of NP$?

maybe namepros puts up say $200NP$ a day/week or something and if you click buy me a beer on a persons profile, it adds a number to their buy me a beer number for that day and at the end of the day the 4 people with the most buy me a beer numbers get 50nP$ each

For some strange reason I don't think that would work very well :\. Where would the 200np$ come form in the first place :P?

Well, the Buy A Beer stuff is getting off topic anyway.. but it's a nice idea.

What we were all talking about was eliminating user spam.. so far the easiest to implement would be no NP$ for the first couple "active" months.. now the question is how to define and enforce the "active" part.

If the database can handle it, maybe allow people to rate individual posts on a scale of 0 to 5. The base value of a post is 1 NP$, the value a poster receives is the base score of the post (1) multiplied by the most selected rating (or the average rating) for that post. Dumb posts would get 0 * 1 = 0 NP$ while great posts would get 5 * 1 = $5NP.

A potential problem is that you need to award the actual NP$ at one point. Maybe freeze voting 24 hours after a post was made and award the NP$ depending on the score the post has at this point.

Yeah, it's complicated but I love things like that.
