Hi All,

Just wanted to see what you experienced domainers thought about using eBay or Craigslist?

I've actually sold a Medical Marijuana name on here a few months back, it was a great transaction, but after some reading, I think I got lucky, I see most people use the paypal refund trick to get their money back and keep your domain...It kind of has me worried and I've never done any good on craigslist, with anything, ever lol

Any/All feedback is greatly appreciated!

With CL you never want to meet anyone in person and the only method of payment should be a wire to your bank account. No exceptions. Even if you use a escrow service make sure that they pay escrow using a wire, I wont go into details right now as to why. if you do not follow this advice it will be your fault only, no one will care about your horror story (if you live to tell it), not cops, not domainers nobody, and rightfully so.

With eBay you must do your own research. If the buyer doesn't have lots of positive recent feedback do not sell the name. Make those rules clear in your auction listing and make no exceptions, if you do it's your fault, the warnings are everywhere.

When you have a domain for sale list it everywhere you can, but if you are the type that money blinds you or are too trusting, simply give it to a broker and do not try doing anything yourself.

I apologize for coming off rude, but the nonstop domain scam stories are getting very tiring!

I didn't take any of that rudely at all, i appreciated it!

I ask because I've never seriously bought or sold names, just here and there, but i got of those fake broker emails and I've been looking up other online scams, i just see ebay and craigslist and think sketchy

Never used CL but have used eBay and had a few small sales through there but also a lot of morons who have messed around that long that they end up just disappearing and leaving me with the fees to pay.

Both are full of scammers. About Ebay, small domain sales are possible, but risky. Some buyers do charge back after they have paid using PayPal and Ebay does nothing about it.

If you live to tell it? You must have quite an imagination. Not saying Craigslist is without risks, and I'd never use it to sell a domain. But I still think you've read too many sensational headlines.

As for Ebay, I've had fairly good results. Following several completed auctions, no problems aside from one buyer (with excellent feedback) who simply never paid. No big deal, I simply relisted. I did discover recently, however, that a better (higher) price can probably be found in the forums. Or Godaddy Auctions, where the disadvantage is a longer wait for payments.

Craigslist is so shifty, I use it all the time. Some domains I have listed in their geographic area, maybe get some extra traffic.Maybe a click.. If you do put it on CL I recommend pointing the domain to your sedo sales page and conduct the transaction through sedo only. If they dont have an account, send them your affiliate link.
I should start doing that...:xf.confused:

Ebay I have listed a dozen names with no success. Bought 5 names no problems at all

For those who had success with using Craigslist, what category do you use? I've listed a couple under "Business/Commercial for sale" - Yet to have a sale originate from there.
