OK. Here is Dynadots's Timetable for Expiry and Pre-Release Auctions.
For the Original Registrant.
Expiry - 40 days : Domain is taken out of your account. If it's been auctioned off, you cannot take it back. If it's not been auctioned off, you can pay their redemption of $69 to recover the domain up until it reaches Pending Delete.
For the Pre-Release Auction
Expiry -30 Days : Domain is placed in Auction for 7 days. If you win the domain, it's put in your account temporarily, so you can pay for it. But it won't be released to you until the end of Expiry - 40 days, and the original resident hasn't renewed it.
So the Original Resident can watch the auction, and if they decide to renew a domain, they have from Expiry - Day 37-40 to renew it at regular renewal rates.
