Dynadot’s Ridiculous Ownership Verification

A few days ago, I discovered that someone was selling my domain 5a.xyz at a low price on Dynadot’s one-click purchase.

It was just listed, but the domain has been in my possession for several months and I did not list it on Dynadot. So, I contacted Dynadot to ask how someone could list my domain without ownership verification.

Dynadot responded that since it was listed, it means the seller has ownership and advised me to contact the registrar of 5a.xyz to confirm if I am the owner, completely denying any issues with their ownership verification system.

As a result, I listed 5a.xyz on Dynadot myself and discovered that 5a.xyz could not be sold again. Now I’m waiting for Dynadot’s explanation.

You are not the first owner. and What you mean "could not be sold again?". You can list it by yourself now since you verify it.. Previous listing will be canceled.

If going to make this thread on Dynadot, on a non-com ngtld, no less, still unflattering thread; give them a chance to address this by tagging: @Dynadot and @Caleb Tweed.

A lot KYC hell is not best either “see: Escrow.com”
It’s about having the right balance.

Hi 789.xyz, our team is currently working on this to remove the old listing. It looks like it was just listed by the previous owner on our site first and we'll have it off in no time. Sorry for the issue there! Our team will update you when it's ready to be listed by you again.

This particular issue has been resolved, we're looking into how to permanently fix it for the future once verified domains are no longer for sale. However, removing them should be a much easier process now.

I think the title of this thread is unfair to Dynadot.

The process re verification they followed was exactly the same as at Sedo, and equal to or stronger than Dan and Afternic, depending on if the name had been listed previously.

You will find many, many outdated and incorrect listings on ALL of the domain marketplaces.

I used a domain subscription service to research the particular domain name. I see that it seems not to have changed registrars since it would have been listed at Dynadot (even if when their marketplace first became open) but there were contact changes. So I presume a push was involved.

So I have a question for you @789.xyz - when you purchased this domain name from someone did you insist that they certify that they had removed the name from all marketplaces? That would have solved this so the problem would not arise. Some buyers, wisely, do that when they buy here on NamePros. Now as a courtesy the seller should have removed it everywhere, but you as buyer should have asked about that.

Dynadot is a great registrar and a great marketplace. The old owner was having the domain listed under their account, it's normal bro.. Please edit the title of the thread to be fair
