So I picked up a name at dynadot expired auctions Im not gonna mention the name just because I am not 100% sure I have it and I think it's a gooder. But they say that after the auction ends there is still 3 days left in the "grace period" in which the original owner can renew. Is this normal for them? It's my first deal from their auctions, I guess what I'm saying is will this name be mine with just a very small chance that after 42 days of ignoring it the owner picks it up again or is it more like a way to keep more bids coming in for longer or something like that? What are the chances that in three days the name is really mine? Anyone with experience with this? Thanks in advance.

I bought some domains at Dynadot and that's the normal procedure for expired names. The same happens at GoDadddy. You buy a name and the previous owner has still the right o renew it ( so technically it still belongs to him/her ); if after 3 -5 days the name isn't renewed than it will be moved into your account BUT ( this is for dynadot ) it has a sort of " lock " on meaning that you can park it BUT YOU CAN'T push it or transfer it. This normally lasts 20 days if I remember properly.

You can't even push to another Dynadot account? Cause everywhere holds them for two months before you can change registrars right?

As far as I know you can't push it too.

This two months only applies to newly registered domains. The exception is GoDaddy where any change in the Registrant in the whois also invokes a 60 day hold as well.

Godaddy does the same (allowing the owner to renew after auction), but it costs nearly $100 to do so. Only Dynadot allows owners to renew at this stage with usual pricing. That means you are more likely to see owners renew at Dynadot than Godaddy.
From the domain owner's point of view, Dynadot provides free appraisal service by auctioning off your expired domains. If they get zero bids, then maybe it's time to drop.

:hi:

This is the normal procedure. The reason the domain is not immediately added to your account when the auction ends is because the original owner still has 3-4 days to grace renew. In total, they have 40 days after the expiration date to grace renew their domain. If the owner doesn't renew within the grace period, the domain is then added to the winning bidder's account.

Domains won in the Expired Auction are in "Auction Lock" status for 15 days. It was dropped down a few months ago from 30 days. During this time, the domain can't be moved to another Dynadot account or transferred away to another Registrar. You can still set your name server settings while in this status. After 15 days have passed, the lock will be removed automatically.

I knew it, I friggin knew it, the domain was too good to buy for the price I got and what do you know the owner magically came back in the last day he had in his 45 days post expiration grace period and renewed his name! It's a damn scam of some type im sure of it. I don't believe the owner came back I think Dynadot didn't play fair and when they saw what a good domain I got for a low price this took it back. I feel like this whole friggin game is rigged against us. Hugely disappointed and I think I may be done with this type of investment. There are too many people's concentrated efforts to make sure I can never get a decent name. "EXPLETIVE DELETED"!

So in all fairness the girl at dynadot who did seem very genuine told me that she personally took the call from the screaming owner of the domain(s) who just realized what happened (on day 39/40 after expiry) and renewed them all. If you got a good domain on dynadot expired check your inbox she says there is going to be a lot of disappointed people tonight. My name by the way was greatkosher.com kosher.com sold for $200000, I paid 11.99 for the greatkosher.com. Sigh if it seems too good to be true even if everything is legit indeed it is still too good to be true. Sorry for the yelling in my last post that was poor manners on my part.
