In this thread:
http://www.namepros.com/search-engines/252917-best-way-to-increase-page-rank.html
I asked about creating a new site with similar content to another site I already had which had PR5. I decided to create new content slightly different than the original, and then change the old site to completely new subject matter.

After 10 weeks, the old site is now sandboxed! A search for the domain name does not show up at all in Google. It still has PR4 but I suspect that will disappear too :( The new site has PR4 which is good, but I might as well have 301'd old to new from the start and saved time changing all that content. I changed words in every sentence but I guess a human reading both sites would say they were similar, so although technically both sites are different, Google has treated them as duplicates.

I'll have to hope I can put my new content up quickly and that Google will list my site again.

If you don't mind then can you show us the URL of the site. :)

Thanks.

Hi Peet,

This article can help you on your way to move from one domain to another domain and also this article is an interesting read for you to identify possible problems with your site and if your site is truly penalized or banned.

Keep us updated with new information that you may discover that could be the cause of your indexing problem.
It could also be just a temporarily glitch since updating search results is an ongoing process.

Thanks, Damion, those are good articles. By some miracle I am hoping it is temporary but it looks like I am penalized. I've put new content on there now and I've asked Google for reinclusion. God knows how long that will take!

It's a bit crazy really. I was googling for "301 redirect" the other day and on the first page there are lots of sites with exactly the same article except for the headers and ads down the side. And the article uses a pretty obsolete way of redirecting. You gotta laugh! The web is mad!

UPDATE: 01010 has returned to google.com! I just did a site:url and all the old pages are back. It hasn't indexed any new pages including the home page yet but I don't really care cos the articles are mostly redirected from another site I have and show up in Google for that site.

Strange that Google should temporarily remove all traces and then put them back again a week later. Go figure! Perhaps I got lucky and someone read my reinclusion request so soon after I posted it. I am so used to hassle after hassle with anything computer-related that for something to go right like this is a real big surprise! Woohoo:)

It's a huge process when there are index changes being made on billions of pages so things can go "wrong" ;)

Great everything worked out for you!

Hey!

You could also avoid duplicate content by hiring a freelance writer! ;)

Hello ! Now-a-days, the search engines(mainly GOOGLE) is not tolerating duplication of content. Are there any programs/software/tools that can help us in avoiding/cautioning the possible duplication.

Well, yeah but for instance if you have 10 results you can check the context for the sentence and discover a duplicate content issue.
You'll be surprised how unique a sentence can be ;)

Tomorrow or a few days after that you will see that this search will also only yield one result.

Copyscape and Google are the tools you need to discover duplicate content.
Also Google is the search engine for which you want to prevent having duplicate content on your site therefor it's interesting what it is what Google regards as duplicate content and the context of the text from which the results show up.

So you can make changes in the text to minimize the duplicate content ratio.

Good Luck.
