I know, I know, but which of them is the best? Has anyone experienced one indicator being better, any indicator that's useless regarding finding traffic?

I like a combination of OVT + Alexa + backlinks (Dont trust PR so much)

How do you tell a domain's pr after it has expired? Does a regular pr checker suffice?

I use this and it seems to work very well,

Alexa Rank of 1,500,000 or less

Link Pop of 800 or greater! Check the links and make sure they Good. Not just from a blog site/Fourm etc

OR

OVT With Ext, ONLY if the name has OVT With OUT as well.

I agree, that's great advice. A combination of factors, instead of just one or another.

Also important is to note that Back links from Google when the domain was previously redirected with a 301, those back links do NOT belong to the domain you are researching, but instead to the final domain, the one receiving the redirect. It is specially the case when the domain you are researching has a Fake PR.

So, do not automaticaly assume that because a domain has a high number of Google back links that those back links are worth it. In this case they are not.

The 3 most important sources of back links I found came from Alexa, Yahoo and MSN, in order of importance.

Share with us what you think.

Alexa backlinks are no good at all (the "Other sites that link to this site:")
MSN and Yahoo are OK

That is not my impression.

I noticed that some of my sites that have even a few Alexa backlinks have a better ranking than just having MSN and Google back links for exampe.

Yahoo links, yes, they are always very good to have.

Certainly there may be other factors to consider but I would not rule out Alexa back links, even though they are not accurate, for sure.

But, if you can have them, keep them.

It seems to me that most times Alexa is just showing the same amount of links as Yahoo is (Not that I trust Alexa for anything other than Entertainment - It's useless IMO altogether). Many links still showing up on Yahoo are also worthless (Many still show up from the old Banned link exchanges that actually hurt you more than help).

Do your research no matter what ;)

Nobody will say that it's bad to have them but they're not reliable

What i noticed is that the Alexa backlinks in many dropping domains are from messageboards, guestbooks and other less significant sources

I make my PageRanked domains category in Kenom taking all these criteria and make sure that the PR will be stable to hold the Google dances

Alexa backlinks are not my first priority to check

As Mark said a good research and even better a cross reference of the resources of the domain may help you find a safe conclusion

I agree, research is key, regardless of which search engine.

Yahoo, for example, still list back links to my sites that were deleted years, yes years, ago.

Active links from authoritative/trafficked sources/pages is the most important, imo.

Something like this?

More lists at www.dots.org, also very sophisticated search engine.

The gif attached is with dmoz, google pr, alexa etc...

Uses alexa rank, pagerank, backlinks, pages indexed, date created, and dmoz to help find quality expired domains which might still have good traffic.

(A) Solid Backlinks + (B) PR and (C) a big number of indexed pages are a good combination for fast traffic.

If you have A) + B) it´s good. But try to check if domain is not G banned.

Good Luck My Friend.
