Hey Guys,

I'm brand new to domaining but starting to research a lot. I get how the expiry process works when someone doesn't renew their domain.. goes through the redemption process etc.. but what exactly is a "dropped" domain and how (if it does) is that different from an "expired" domain?

At what point can I search for it and register it as if registering a fresh new domain name? (without bidding/back ordering)

Thanks!

It's weird that I'm allowed to post a link but not an image :D

Expiration comes before the drop.

The expiration date is when your domain expires at your registrar, but you still have plenty of time to renew/restore it.

The drop is when the domain has gone through the entire deletion process and is available for anyone to register it by hand.
