Well, it was painful, but I dropped my g00gle related domains today. They were:

googlesearch_dot_ws
googling_dot_us
googled_dot_ws

These domain were delivering some nice traffic, but I got an email from G basically telling me to transfer the domains to G. I replied and let them know that I was not willing to transfer the names--after all, I paid for the registrations!--but I would shutdown the sites and let the domains expire. They were set to expire in a few days, so I decided to just cancel them now.

I made some money off the names; not much, but enough to cover my monthly bill for diapers. But that party is over now. Oh well.

I have some e_B_a-y related domains that I'll never give up, mostly because I hate them so much.

Any opinions on my IvyLeague_dot_tv domain name? A TM search reveals a plethora of companies using this name so I'm not worried about it. I think it's a great name and I plan on developing it some more by the end of this year.

Dropping Google-ish domains is a smart move since I'm sure you're enjoying AdSense. You don't want to spit into a well you're drinking from, right? Risking getting banned isn't worth it.

Yes, that was certainly a major factor in my decision. But I would have let them expire anyway, as G has the right to protect their brand. They lose as much as I do, IMO: I was using the domains as search portals in conjunction with G's AS for Search program. Now that the domains are inactive, no one benefits  :yell: :( :td:

I guess it makes sense since their brand is worth a whole lot more than the few extra dollar they'd make with the setup I had going.

You may still not be out of the woods unless they accepted your offer to let them drop. Technically, If they think you made any money off of them, they can sue you for the income. If they found out you used adsense to pay you for hits, they not only would have the evidence, but probably seek retribution for the payouts.

Stay generic - stay out of trouble.

Someone may want to take on these names. Thanks to my efforts, all the names I posted above are PR3.

I made the mistake of rushing the registration of the names without first getting permission from G. Someone else could contact G and ask for permission to use any of these names. G may say yes, or they may say no. But someone could try.

G often let's people use their brand, as long as G is given the opportunity to give the nod first. Here's where you need to go to get permission:

I hope someone will throw me some NP$ if they decide to register any of these names

They had suspended my AS for Search functionality when they asked me to transfer the names to them. After I shut the websites down, they restored my AS for Search functionality.

would u have gotten sued if u were still keeping them active? i don't really understand this stuff about using their brand name, so its best to keep out of it all.

If I had kept then active and functioning: yes, they probably would have taken further action eventually.

If I kept the names with no websites active on them then I don't think G would have taken any action.

As always, IMO.
