I back ordered a domain through snapnames the other day. The domain dropped today and it would appear that Godaddy grabbed it before snapnames. The whois shows 'Go France Domains, LLC' and now the status in snapnames shows 'backorder'.

This is crazy if this is what happened. I've never lost a domain that I backordered through snapnames. Has anyone else had something like this happen to them?

Yes it has happened to me, but only once on a LLLL.com that I backordered. GD just doesn't have the firepower to compete with SN on a regular basis, but has to get lucky sometimes!

I'll just have to backorder through a few different places if I really want a chance at a name. I don't backorder a ton of names so this is a first for me.

There's always other domain names so I'll look that I saved $69 for another domain! It was more the shock that Godaddy beat them to it. But like you said, everybody has to get lucky at some point!

I have never trusted back ordering to actually be first. I have set names to auto renew before and had them not do anything either so don't even count on that.

I have had snapnames fail many many times actually. I would not trust them to catch anything. If there is only one bid on the domain then there is no money to be made in an auction.
