I guess this might be a double post for me, but a post by a trusted member had me wondering so I emailed Dotster saying I wanted to sell one of my infos.

This was the response:

Sell my .info Domain Names

Hello,

Per Affilias (.info registry), no ownership changes may be made to
.info domains which were registered for free until the domains have been
registered for one year. If you have any other questions be sure to let
us know.

Heres the TOA if anyone can find that little ummmmmm catch please point it out.

This is what I understood:

Any domains purchased for free that exceed the 25 per customer will be deleted from our system and any corresponding services (hosting, email, etc.) will not function with that domain name. Registrant information for any account registering free .info domains may not be modified, transferred, or sold until January 1st, 2005.

soo..then be sure to get a price that you feel is "reasonable for all your domains as a package and sell him your account (after your remove all your pertinant, private information) that includes ALL your .info's.

only thing Dotster is good for is there name lookup tool.

In other words registering 25 free names at dotster is free but also dead capital for 1 year. Unless you sell your whole account as LeeRyder says... which I hardly see as an option.

The only thing I ask myself can I push the domains within this first year to netcheap, so I can reregister them for cheap next year.

What else is the use of registering this 25 free domains?

I'm glad I didn't go the Dotster Route ~ Most of the other Reg's could care less what you do with them after 60 days ...........

Hey, don't say you weren't warned.

It's OK if you just want to use the names for parking purposes. Otherwise, it stinks. :'(

Glad I didn't register my free .infos at Doster or any of their resellers.

Because they need CC info :)

Why would you have to sell your entire account? Leeryder, where did you get that from dotster's response?

I agree it sucks that dotster is making a new "1-year rule" instead. I wonder if we can fight this? Anyway, looks to me like the worst case scenario is that you pay for renewal of the ONE particular domain that has a buyer, then leave the rest for later.

Apollo ~ I still dont see where it says 1 year in the TOA, but I do see the Jan 1 2005 date.

Has anyone found where it says 1 year besides my letter?

yeah, why does it ask for CC info? so they can renew the domains or what? lol

yea, if you dont want the domains after a year make sure you turn auto-renew off, it'd be quite pricey for 25 domains lol.

I also have not seen the 1 year rule thing, I only saw the 'you cant do it before jan 2005' rule.

I can push the 25 free .info to another acct just like normal. Transfer out might not work but within accounts, sure no problem.

I would like to know the answer as well. Can you push .info domains to another dotster account (different user)?

For what it's worth, I have over 500 names at Dotster that I've mostly accumulated from namewinner about a year ago. I didn't want to pay $14.99 per name there to renew, but also didn't want to enter and get 500 auth codes to transfer. I asked for special pricing based on the number of domains I have there and was somewhat accomodated. I asked them to match the pricing I get at Enom, and they wouldn't do that, but I now pay about $.50 more than I would at two other registrars, but don't have to go through the hassle of all those EPP auth code transfers.

You don't need auth codes to do pushes :)
