Ok, this will just make my quest to put a spotlight on "forgotten original extensions" complete! :)
...
Upon general consensus, .ORG is the ONLY extension so far that most people would agree can have a stand alone website without .COM
(We personally have a company website using only .org)
...
The biggest problem with .ORG seems to be that many names don't fit the extension, but I don't really agree since the domain has been around since the very beginning and can easily be made as generic as the Almighty .COM! :)
...
Any and All feedback, including any recent significant sales or showcase domains/websites, greatly appreciated! :tu:

Don't park! Just set up a simple website with rss feeds. More value for the buck!

I just picked up PleaseVote.org. I also have PleaseVote.net.

In this case, I think the term fits the .org best.

It may even be better than the .com (in terms of use, not necessarily value).

What do you think?

:)

While I personally have no problems with .org, I am doubtful about the trust people place in any domain except for .com's.

By people, I mean those logging on to buy our goods/services who may not necessarily have a clue :P

It's all in the content and how the name is developed.

I picked up Kidnapped.org last week.

Some of my others:

Alderman.org
ChicagoMortgages.org
PastryChefs.org

I think .orgs are fine if you give the reader info of value...I don't really like them for products though.

Blimey, good catch. Surely you don't want to leave that one for too long?

Completely agree, that's an excellent use for .org.

:-/ ...I said "ASSUME" ;)

Yes. You did.

It just seemed sigh-worthy to ask if anyone had successfully monetized a site that most people visit assuming it's not monetized.

That's all.

I'm not judging. I'm just sighing.

Regarding the issue of "monetary gain" itยดs perhaps worth looking at some of the biggest .org sales so far this year:

Poker.org $1,000,000
TaxAttorney.org $35,000
DUIAttorney.org $35,000
Dating.org $22,500
DentalInsurance.org $15,125
FranceHotels.org $13,599
Penis.org $11,000
Eyelashes.org $7,370
Kfzversicherung.org $5,523
PetInsuranceComparison.org $4,444

While they may not end up in blatant monetization, looking at the keyword values the pattern is obvious.

I hand regged 2 .orgs today that I think fit the extension quite well.

BelugaWhale.org
Refereeing.org

I'll see how they go.
