Ok, this will just make my quest to put a spotlight on "forgotten original extensions" complete! :)
...
Upon general consensus, .ORG is the ONLY extension so far that most people would agree can have a stand alone website without .COM
(We personally have a company website using only .org)
...
The biggest problem with .ORG seems to be that many names don't fit the extension, but I don't really agree since the domain has been around since the very beginning and can easily be made as generic as the Almighty .COM! :)
...
Any and All feedback, including any recent significant sales or showcase domains/websites, greatly appreciated! :tu:

I agree totally. .ORG is as important a .COM and infact much more trusted because of its ties with Governments and Charity org's. >ORG can be of help to users and also a very good business machine since people searching on .ORG sites are looking for specific information. Information you can lead them to and generate a good income through sales.

Check my sig!

As my sig would indicate, I'm a big .org fan. Though not just a fan - I've made quite a lot of .org sales over the years, registered ones for as high as $3,000. Even though I'm a believer in .org fitting a lot more things than most people give it credit for, my personal favorites are the domains that fit well with it. Some I have like that are HelpVictims.org, PeaceOut.org, LiveHappy.org, etc. There's definitely a trustfulness to the extension, which has helped some sites gain massive authority. Look at how many people rely on Wikipedia for information?

For my brother-in-law's non-profit organization, I regged the .org and the .com. I made the .org the main domain name and redirected the .com to it. Whether warranted or not, .org instills a sense of trust.

Yes, people assume there is no monetary gain involved in a .org site...thus the trust :)

No .net in this one because it's a long name and not a valuable type-in name. His is a small local non-profit organization. I had to reg 4 different names because the word "theater" is in the name, so I also had to get the variant/British spelling "theatre" as well.

In this case, when the .coms were available, it didn't make sense to reg the .net on a so-so name. For my brother-in-law's purposes, the .com and .org were enough, and I followed his wishes.

Lesser .net domains work well (developed) when the .com is parked or otherwise underutilized.

On the other hand, developed one-word and premium .nets OFTEN outrank .com domains that are parked or not used.

While I love the .net TLD, I'm also pragmatic.

I actually agree...but personally I couldn't not reg the .NET also (lets leave that for The .NET Thread, though, Jennifer ;)).
