I know it's a leap of logic but I notice the "I just regged axyz.guru" posts have trailed off pretty quickly.

In other words... (crickets chirping)

well.. theres lots of 1 character .domains available to hand register for low $xxx now

theyre not as short as "true" 1 character domains like you have but the 1 character thing will continue to get watered down at least in the short term. less rare... sell now, sell often.

P.S. you better still have that yellow ribbon i mailed you in 2007 or whenever it was... i cut it out of notebook paper and colored it myself with a hi-lighter marker..

IMO makes no sense for these one letter long extensions. Always will be demand for real short names. Lots of lazy programmers like short urls.

Might as well get XXX.GY then X.Plumbing .

I never got that ribbon. Thats news for me. You really snailed mail me a ribbon?

Im having trouble grasping the entire concept of this extension .GURU in general.

1. Who the hell actually uses the term "guru" in everyday life?

2. Why are people (in this industry) saying this is and will be the best gtld?

I think its time for some to get back out into the sunlight (vitamin D does wonders).

Just my 2 cents..............

Just ignore it if you don't see the value of .GURU or other extensions :) and move on.

Im not saying I dont see any possible value in all the new extensions.

As an investor, Im trying to educate myself on the views of what makes this extension ".GURU" an asset or potential investment.

;)

Im having trouble grasping the entire concept of this extension .GURU in general. ..

Its a term reserved for those that do something that takes a lot of experience and knowledge, and they are also good at teaching that skill to others. People can use other words like 'master'.

A perfect dot guru would be yoga.guru

The important thing here is that "guru" doesn't fit everything.

Yet it feels like people are keyword saturating the extension.

This is just the start of the roll out.

Don't blow your domaining bank roll on a bunch of dot guru's

bam. yep... its the old way of thinking. as if its .info coming out and no other TLD's on the horizon

actually, .info was alright to keyword saturate because it works for a lot of things but the ultra specific nature of gTLD is an entirely different angle..

Oh my gosh... Please dont forget this while you are paying XXX USD for new gTLDS.
Dynadot: "The premium price will be applied to the registration, renewal and transfer of the domain name. Premium domains are often memorable and can be a great investment."
960 USD or more per year...
I think its not worth it, even with a traffic you cant cover the costs. Youd need like to have debt.management to come near 960 USD per year.

 hi 2014
The actual quote, that you may have misunderstood, can be found here.
In my view, mobile Internet would remain marginal on 2.5' black and white LCD screens. Because the trimmed down Internet experience is poor, and the handsets we were talking about are not today's tablets.
I believe the Nokia 3310 something is still the most popular GSM phone in the world, especially across Africa :)
But now we have tablets and enhanced phones so the distinction between mobile and desktop has blurred. As I predicted .mobi became irrelevant.
The norm for a new TLD is to fail, so the naysayers are often right then wrong.

I have a 'dumbphone' that is web-enabled but I can tell you it's not great for surfing at all - strictly essential stuff :)

Yup. But domainers are not paying attention to those 'little details' because they are confident they will be able to flip them fast
Come back in one year to watch the drops - it will be slaughter :gl:

ah, yea i couldnt find the original quote. you're a reasonable person but even reasonable people back then were saying internet on "cell phones" would remain the same...

what bothered me was otherwise smart people making the assumption technology was going to stay in the same place and that yes, internet on a tiny screen isnt really ideal or what we're used to but the potential for usefulness outweighed that. i rarely linked that up with .mobi as a TLD being successful though.. i have an iphone but dont use it a whole lot. mostly the maps/gps stuff is really useful..

Yeah they are to impulsive and dont read it carefully, because somebody could register that jewel in the next seconds :) Its NOT 1 time premium fee, its like annual. This reminds me of the times of .tv, when people almost gone broke with the renewing fees.

I agree with you. it makes sense for a small batch of words, and is used in some specific industries - but I don't see it being a great hit.

With 1,000's of new extensions I wouldn't put this on the top of my list or must have extensions.
