I was wondering which is worth more? .pro or .guru

Also how would you compare them in terms of price and ratio?

If you had a .PRO and a .GURU with exact same quality content and backlink profile, which do you think would rank higher?

What's better - .PRO or .GURU? Please Vote!

I voted .pro because it is shorter and maybe more professional.

I did not invest in these extensions.

If anything, .pro would appeal to a more conservative business person.

But if someone is running a bit more casual business (legal marijuana sales, for example), .guru would be the way to go.

If I were a .pro end user trying to protect a TM, I would probably try to buy the .guru version as well.

I think it depends: .pro would rank higher, unless it were something like ganja.guru (not mine, too slow on the uptake) or yoga.guru (also not mine).

I voted for .pro, simply because it offers broader appeal, but .guru may have its own niche on the web. I don't think it should be a guru vs. pro situation because the meanings and nuances are quite different.

I think that .pro and (perhaps) .travel will ride the coattails of the new gTLDs and become more known, and, thus, adopted -- that is, if the new gTLDs don't fall flat.

The sales, so far, have been disappointing.

I am not a huge fan of either, but I would say .PRO in a landslide over .GURU.
If they were both released at the same time .PRO would be the one that had far more interest.

However, until .PRO lifts the requirements and gets carried by GoDaddy, I don't see much potential for it to be widely adopted.

I believe both of these have restrictions. So unless they loosen or drop them, don't see how this will happen.

Perhaps .pro will see the light and loosen up restrictions. If they don't, then .guru may very well overtake .pro.

Success depends on numbers, I afraid; if very few end users know about a gTLD, it doesn't matter how intuitive it may be, and if it can't be registered by a broad base of users, well, then, good luck.

I would rephrase the poll as: which one is the least worst :imho:

I agree, and i think in time the general public will be on this. For now it is just a select bunch who know whats going on. Some with deep pockets. :)

I think some .coms will go up and some will go down. For example i think Grass.Pro is a better name then GrassPro.com. "not mine"

The simple way to look at it is that there is a 'weird factor' with dot guru that's not as evident on dot pro

if this question is about domain speculation then I'd say neither or completely depends on the domain, but still not interested in speculating in either

What? :-/

Why don't you test it yourself and let us know

About as pointless as voting Republican in California

.pro is far better in my eyes. It's shorter and, more importantly, it's more widely recognized internationally than guru. Guru has connotations in other countries that are more religious, or even cultish. Not great for business. Everybody is on the same page with "pro," though.

So far as ranking, nobody here can know that.

guru is just plain stupid. the only reason it has sold so many is because you can apply it to so many terms. pro is way better but its not being hyped so no one cares.

.pro is better but I voted for . guru because I belive that his brandability is better.

I have two professional certifications in the field of Accounting and yet I would have zero interest in accounting.pro and would consider .guru to be not the sort of domain you would want on a business card to offer say tax preparation or compilation services to the general public. Note I do own CPAs.TV and Accountancy.TV both of which I have marketed to end users who have Youtube channels or videos with little positive feedback.

My 13 year old daughter said it wisely: ".guru is for those who teach, and .pro is for someone who is a professional at their work". So, I would say that there is a use for both of them.

Guru is great for knowledge sites and consumer sites whereas pro is for businesses, that should be very obvious.

I recently bought download.guru because its a great extension that has a lot of potential. Unlike xyz, guru has intrinsic value. Guru is a term everyone understands and is not as boring and generic.

Just look at the recent games.guru sale - Games.com would be incredibly expensive and frankly - boring. Younger consumers quickly adopt new technology trends and would actually be curious about games.guru or similar sites to see what they have to offer. With games.com I know its a corporation behind it that will offer somewhat "generic" content (mainstream, not personal, ..boring). What younger consumers crave is being connected to their peers and that works best when your brand tells an interesting story that appeals to them. So for brand building guru is excellent and a cheap alternative to com.

So yea, if you intend to build consumer sites go with guru. Want to look professional and have something to put on your biz card? Go with pro. Easy.
