No.

Did you mean one in particular?

Only international sites will use .com in tha future I think ;D

If so, it will be the international companies that are making the major money that will support the price level of .com. .Com tld and money will continue to go hand in hand. At least thats my guesstimation.:)

Well for good names it will be higher prices, but all others will just get lower.

.com has been marketed in 10s of billions to the world. It will be the first choice for businesses...

Not forever, I see now already in europe all companies have started to use the ccTLD as their first choice.

Probubly cause they cant or dont own the .com

If I was to start my own Company I would want the .com no matter where my biz was based. I think its safe to say that .com will always have the most value/recognition. If lets say joe blow owned Games.fr they would certainly be interested in owning Games.com

You are so wrong, a little or quite big company in anywere in europe would want their ccTLD before any TLD.

I think that this is indeed a trend in some European countries like Germany. Since many of them had their names in the .com space taken by other companies or individuals (I won't say cybersquatters), they decided to not play that game, and instead it became common practice to use the .de version of their names.

However, if the .com is also available, even if from a reseller as long as the price is reasonable, then they would be foolish not go for the .com as such failure will cost them to lose brand equity.

Armstrong explained himself/it better then I :) I feel the same way... to pass on the .com would be a mistake...

Well, its not just cause that the name is already taken.
But all news sites, news papers, tv channels, and on uses the ccTLD so common people are more used to it.
Like google have ccTLD that every country is redirected to and its gets the most type ins nowdays.

The state sets the standards and the people gets used to it.

Yes, but what if they have non-German partners, or decide to expand to the US? The people they talk to will keep trying to send email to the .com of their names, and prospective clients will keep going to the .com. If the company plans to stay local forever, then they can stick to cctld; otherwise they must find real international tld, preferably .com.

Atm compnaies are registering the .com just cause some fool wont put up a porn site there or something.
But in the future they wont care cause noone will enter a .com for a dansih, deutsch, swedish.......... news site and on.....

.com wont die but ccTLD will be the new king :D

EXACTLY!

Marketing 101:

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE!
The only internet related name more marketed than Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and all the XXX sites combined is.............. .com

BTW: Google the web for .com, Results about 1,920,000,000.

Simple test:
In a discussion with someone tell them to got to internet site "??????" and do not add the extension.

One of two responses will likely be had:

1) The individual will assume it is a .com and continue the conversation.
2) The person will ask, Is that .com?

There response will in all likelyhood be directly related to there "internet expierence"

.com RULES!!! and will for as long as any of us are here!

Here are some emails I received from Chinese Friends

I emailed some Chinese friends living in mainland China and asked them whether they like .com or .com.cn better and this is what I got:

Email 1:
"there are no big difference between .com and .com.cn. Yet some people do think .com is more formal and international. If I want to open a internet bussiness. I will choose .com since I want my customers to know that my company is good enough to afford a ".com". And for most none computer major users especially people who knows nothing about internet. " .com" would be more easy to remember."

Email 2:
"The websites my frirends and I often visite are "Google.com""sina.com.cn""chinaren.com"
"hotmail.com"and I use MSN a lot.
We also visit "xaonline.(xi'an on line).com"and "sohu and yahoo.com"and some other websites provide many homepages of some sites."

Email 3:
"Good to hear from you again. As for the questions you asked me.My friend who also works at a computer firm told me chinese people are inclined to visit ones with com at the end.speaking of name you mentioned."

I was in China almost three years ago now and spent 7 months there. I brought back a can of Chinese sode and it has a .com.cn address on it. My Chinese friends mentioned a whole bunch os sites that end in .com that are popular: chinaren.com (china people), xaonline.com, sohu.com (very popular), liaoliao.com, dianliao.com, hotmail.com, google.com. It is very clear that they like .coms more than .com.cns, just like Americans like .coms over .us. I think that the Chinese are going to like .com.cn about as much as Americans are going to adapt to .us addresses. .us hasn't gone over too well and I think .com is here to stay!

Ford was around since the beginning, and they're still here. Harvard was around since the beginning and they're still here. It's hard to beat the top with time. I think .coms are here to stay!
