I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

ok so we're still not sure what happens after .ca expires on whc...... anyone here had domains expire there??? were you able to transfer out? how many days max after expiry?

im prtty sure the guy I talked to was wrong.. cause he even said that for their .com or other extensions they do not allow ANY time after expiry to transfer out.. which we all know is not true.. cause icann obligates all registrars to allow this for some days. usually 30.

With Sibername once you hit expiry date you can renew for 30ish days but you canโ€™t transfer out as they disable the Lock/Unlock and Auth code functions

I donโ€™t believe you can transfer out with NamesPro as well after expiry but you can renew.

Just posted for a point of reference as I have no experience with WHC

well I actually called cira
they said everyone has obligation to give you auth code and unlock it when in grace period.. so around 30 days past expiry.

so they said to just ask them for it. and if they refuse.. call cira after 5 days and they can get involved

That is interesting...never heard that before.

I will have to test it out (y)

well.. out of all the people in supports who do not know what they're talking about, I guess trusting cira answers should be the logical thing to do.

problem is.. if you do trust them.. and your domains expire and they were wrong.. well.. you may be a bit screwed.

im hoping someone here knows what happens to .ca domains on whc.ca after they expire.. maybe they can comment.

GD is hopeless with .ca names transfer ins. They can't deal with the Registrant info. I still get renewal notices for names I sold to people 4 years ago (that insisted on moving to GD) as they still have me listed as one of the contacts.O_o
I just don't do them anymore without warning people of this and now they just usually use my recommendation for Namespro.

when i transfer one out of whc to goodaddy it took like 30 seconds. Once you enter auth code at gaining registrar, never received any more confirmation of transfer request.
I did that, transfer to dadday as I had a buyer wanted to transfer to there and said godaddy or no sale daddy.
So I transfer one to see how long it would take. Be the last one

I think its 30 days, is that for netfirms. Maybe @namesilo can tell us the expiring/drop process for their system.

@namesilo you have a lot of hungry Canadians up here. Give us a deal on .ca transfer in and we will
transfer more to 1479. You need more .ca in your system.

As with virtually all registries, it is up to the registrar to determine how they will implement the expiration policies. CIRA has a pretty unique expiration process. You can find more details at the following links:

https://cira.ca/domain-name-life-cycle
https://cira.ca/be-released-domain-name-registration-policy-rules-and-procedures

We are sorry, but we do not currently have any transfer promotions. We try to keep our prices very low at all times, but we do not typically offer transfer promotions.

You also told me whc.ca doesnt show up as registrar in link manager because they are not icann acreditted. What is difference between registrar being registered or acreditted with icann?

Correct, our DomainLink service only shows registrars that are ICANN-accredited. Many ccTLDs, such as .ca, do not require ICANN-accreditation so our DomainLink service will not currently be able to show the registrar in those cases.

hmmmm.. you mean its up to registries to determine how they implement .ca expiration processes? as far as I know and read in some places, its an obligation for all registrars to allow clinets to get auth code (transfer out) expired domains during grace period.. for extensions such as .com.. org.. net.. info.. and possibly few more

are you sayign this is not so?

and even for .ca, after my chat with cira today, I was told it is not up to registries to decide that. and they'll get involved if any registrar refuses to give auth code during grace period.

There is a difference between "registries" and "registrars". Registries have their own rules. ICANN mandates certain rules from registries, but many ccTLDs (such as .ca) are not overseen by ICANN.

But since dozens of us have registered with WHC's clunky interface, poor support and confusing policies, perhaps offering a transfer special would gain you new clients and thousands of domain names.

I really am sorry, but it is very rare that we offer transfer coupons as our transfer pricing is already so low. We unfortunately cannot offer coupons that result in losing money. Our approach is to offer our best prices upfront, never charge for things most registrars charge for such as lifetime free WHOIS privacy, and not make our customers need to hunt for coupons or special offers.

The sales pitch that I fell into is "rarity and liquid".."n-n" there are only 100 of them.
Totally agree with brandabilty!

I thought you said its up to registrars.

you said registries.
Yes confusing..even with coffee.
As with virtually all registries, it is up to the registrar to determine how they will implement the expiration policies
But basically the .ca registry has expiration policies which is determined by the registrar as to how they are implemented..

Thank you. can you please wait a min while I investigated your demand

In another country for sure. You made a request, she confused the word with demand.
Clear signs of a language barrier.

I was never too excited with whc.ca support.. there is just something terrible about that

so I thought I'd ask here

I do not have much experience transfering out expired .ca domsins.. and since its not really icann where they have to let you do it for 20-30 days past expiry in most registrars.. can someone confirm how it works for .ca? can I transfer expired .ca from whc.ca ... how many days max?

cheers

Where are you moving too?
I have about 250 domains with them and their renewal is $13.99.
I can get $10.99 with canspace.ca and the bulk of my domains are with them. They offer me excellent service. I did ask for a discount moving in 250 and I was told they are at cost once they factor in credit card fees.

The 8.99 USD for a .ca converts to 11.33 CDN and then the credit card company charge 1.5% conversion so the total is $11.49 per domain. I currently pay $10.99 at canspace and their bulk tools are not too great. They use the exact same interface as whc which leaves a lot to be desired.

All in all for the 50 cents I would be inclined to switch if the bulk tools were great. The only problem is moving about 600 domains is one tedious task because you have to get each transfer code. Not a problem because both whc and canspace give that to you in one keyclick but entering that in manually at namesilo with cut and paste would be one hell of a job.

I'm still waiting for any company to somehow automate the process of moving a larger bulk portfolio.

@namesilo

Hello. We allow people to transfer up to 500 domains in each order. The transfer order can be placed via TXT file upload including the domain name and EPP code on each line. Since CIRA does not require email authorization, once you submit your order, all of your domains should complete transferring within about 5-10 minutes (assuming they are unlocked and the provided EPP codes are correct). We have transferred nearly 500,000 domains from other registrars (https://www.namesilo.com/transfer_compare.php) so we really have made the process as easy as we can on our end, but our support team is always standing by to help with any questions or issues that arise. Our average email response time is under 10 minutes during business hours.
