Hey nP members,

we all know that the TLD space has changed completely.

While we can see many creative and great domains made from new TLDs we can see much more really weird and pointless .combinations - means weird and pointless domain name combinations in the .com extension - it often just looks like that 'it must be a .com in every case - no matter how pointless the name combination itself is'.

There are now so many opportunities to 'label' meaningful domain names with a new TLD - I personally recommend .top for the optimum / best 'label' - don't think .com is the future.

what's in a name hey? I would be keen to understand how google references a .com versus a .xyz or a .store for example Because lets face it, pretty much everyone these days types in a keyword to google in order to find what they are looking for. in fact i would even argue that the address bar in the future will almost become a redundant secondary feature in most browsers, in many ways it already is. I can't remember the last time i typed in a 'word' .com to find a website i was looking for, other than domain research lol so why then would someone type in 'clothing.store' as opposed to searching in google for, 'Levis Jeans' in many ways clothing.store is totally irrelevant if the first 10 results showing for 'levis jeans' are .coms by recongised .com retailers, then think are those retailers going to spend the money to convert stuff to a .store domain? i wonder, it's an interesting debate i think.

Let's get back to reality... All is very trivial in the domain industry...
GD is waiting for money from Chineses... in the same way as it was with Afilias for .PRO
All other args here are just a lyrics... especially about Tier1,2,3 etc. LOL...

And I also remember when .me-Registry stopped to pay GoDaddy - .me instantly disappeared from their main page.

The Domain Industry is a lot bigger than Domaining. However some people refuse to understand that.

As GoDaddy said recently on ICANN56 - hosting is their primary income-source and focus.

No. But an undeveloped domain name on an registrar still makes money for the registrar. Most domain names registered are undeveloped.

Then what problem to offer the FULL assorti by "the biggest and coolest" registrar if they don't lose anything???
They just want more and more... directly from Registries...
And no other variants here.

Keyword combinations which make sense....

Miami condos (i.e. Miami.condos)
Real estate (i.e. Real.estate)
IT Training (i.e. IT.training)
Online Marketing (i.e. Online.marketing)
Caribbean Cruises (i.e. Caribbean.cruises)

What keyword phrases with significant search volume end with "top"?

There's a cost to adding a TLD in that it needs marketing and training support people to deal with queries and problems. From a business point of view, it is about getting the most registrations with the least amount of investment. Godaddy's primary market is .COM but it ends up with a major share of most gTLDs eventually. There are also registries competing for position on Godaddy's and other big registrars' checkout/registration pages. You pointed out above what happened with .me ccTLD. However Godaddy was an integral part of the repurposing and launch of .me as an open ccTLD. Large registrars need to keep getting new registrations and and renewals. The renewals are where the recurring money is because once a domain goes through its first renewal, it may be continually renewed. Some of these new gTLDs have not even gone through their first year of operation yet so the renewal rates are not apparent and each of these new gTLDs loses anything from 10% upwards on the first renewal. Once the new gTLD has gone through its first year of operation, a registrar may be able to see which new gTLD might be more in demand from its customers.

Perhaps Godaddy may add .top and other new gTLDs. However with .top, China is the country with the largest market share (88%). That means that it is a Chinese dominated market rather than a North American dominated market like that of .COM or some of the older gTLDs. As much of Godaddy's customers are North American, it would make more business sense to prioritise gTLDs targeted at that market. It can always move into .top and other gTLDs eventually.

Always thought GoDaddy had equity in doMEn (.ME registry).

.top should / will more be seen as a 'label' / 'seal' / 'stamp' - like .com

@kingof.top is only had a new think on his domaining way. I respect that, and I love to thinking out of the box.
I think some domainer is afraid to move because their digital assets were placed a lot on .com's

I saw a lot of nTLDs that were launched on GoDaddy from the 1st day of GA or LANDRUSH...
So again: don't want to comment this theory about Tier1,2,3 etc.
