Ok,

I am just wondering if domains like the following have any value:

GeoAmerica
GeoUSA
GeoWashington
GeoJobs
GeoLanders
GeoMortgage
GeoPlumbers
GeoAutoInsurance
GeoMiami
GeoLondon
GeoGuide
GeoDating

The above are not mine.

I see lots of talk about Geo Domains or lets say Geo-targeted domains these days. Of course I have some with Geo in them but 99% of my Geo ones are actual name of the Country/State/City/County+Service ones.

Do you think ones like the examples above have any value? Are they suitable for sites such as local directories/guides etc? Is it good to get few?

Thanks.

Thank you all for your responses.

I guess a few such names with Geo in front won't hurt, just in case:)

Have to agree with Jeff -- they'd be great for dev!

How would you compare the following:

1. eLondon, iLondon, and GeoLondon?

2. eJobs, iJobs, and GeoJobs?

Probably an individual preference thing here, but I find:

Geo Jobs preferable to eJobs or iJobs.
And eLondon preferable to iLondon or GeoLondon.

ipodxpert: There are 2 kind of Geo domains:

1. Old and Real Geo domains Such as PhiladelphiaLifeInsurance, DetroitGolf, IndiaPoker, etc.

and

2. then this new fashion that many people have started to buy in to:

GeoJobs, GeoHotels, GeoAutoInsurance, etc where 'Geo' just means 'Local'.

Which Geo domains are you talking about in the above post?

I agree with personal preference.

I also think, for example, in addition to GeoLoans, a domain like GeoLoanFinder will be more suitable.

I believe these names have great value. Let's use your example of GeoPlumbers.com (which I also happen to own). It is my opinion that a name like GeoPlumbers.com would make a great directory for plumbers in various geographic locations. For example:

Thank you for visiting GeoPlumbers.com. Please select your desired city below to find a plumbing specialist in your area.

Akron
Albuquerque
Anchorage
Atlanta
Austin
Baltimore
BatonRouge
Birmingham
Boise
Boston
Buffalo
Charlotte
Chattanooga
Chicago
Cincinnati
Cleveland
ColoradoSprings
Columbus
Dallas
Denver
DesMoines
Detroit
Durham
ElPaso
Eugene
FortWorth
Fresno
GrandRapids
Hartford
Honolulu
Houston
Indianapolis
Jacksonville
KansasCity
Knoxville
LasVegas
LittleRock
LosAngeles
Louisville
Madison
Memphis
Miami
Milwaukee
Minneapolis
Nashville
NewOrleans
NewYork
Oakland
OklahomaCity
Omaha
Orlando
Philadelphia
Phoenix
Pittsburgh
Portland
Providence
Raleigh
Reno
SaltLakeCity
SanAntonio
SanDiego
SanFrancisco
SanJose
Scottsdale
Seattle
Spokane
StLouis
StPaul
Tacoma
Tampa
Toledo
Tucson
Tulsa
VirginiaBeach
Wichita

Now with that said, I believe having city+plumbers.com is important too, if one is looking for a specific service in a specific geographic location. If I were doing some lead generation for plumbing in Providence, RI, I would want the name ProvidencePlumbers.com, ProvidencePlumber.com or ProvidencePlumbing.com (the latter - also a name I happen to own). The reason - 1) people type in ProvidencePlumbers.com, ProvidencePlumber.com and ProvidencePlumbing.com; and 2) if someone were to type in "Providence Plumbers", "Providence Plumber" or "Providence Plumbing" on Google or Yahoo, chances are your site would appear on the first page, assuming the name was not currently parked (which ProvidencePlumbing.com incidentally is until I have some extra time to build a content-based landing page for that domain as well as my other geo-targeted names). Anyway, just my $.02.
