I Hope that I do not get too confusing as I have many thoughts that I am trying to get out.

I am curious and would like to get some thoughts on how everyone out there feels about domain names with abbreviations or acronyms.

I am not talking about 3 and 4 letter domains but more so a domain that has a keyword with an abbreviation or acronym.

These are not my domains & are used only for examples. Below are some examples of the type of domains that I Am talking about. Don't judge them on the actual domain , just the general trend that I am listing.

DNSales.com
DNAuctions.com
FreeSEO.com
BuyDN.com
CoolFX.com

Do you feel that domains such as these will hold any kind of value in the long run, or do you feel that they will be overvalued by the long versions of themselves? So for example instead of BuyDN.com it would be BuyDomainName.com
To me I would definately consider the long form to have more outright value if i had to pick one today. But does that mean the short form isn't high quality too?

I am exploring trends & would appreciate any input into this topic.

I have sold several hand reg DN or SEO names for a small profit... $x to $xx.

Using your example I prefer DNSales over DomainNameSales

for brandability I think the Shorter would be better, but having the keywords would probably be best in the long term.

But I question this as the search engines are getting smarter & I think that there could be a day where abbreviations & acronyms carry more weight

DN stands for many different things and many enduser donยดt know what it means. DOS or maybe DDOS for example is more known Therefore I find it better to use the full word and of course its better for Seo with a known key in the sitename.

If you can get both, I would develop the "spelled out" version (for search engine purposes), and advertise/ promote the abreviation.

It depends on what your plans are for the domain and who your target market is.....I would go with the short well known acronym....with your example.....if your target market is mostly other domain sellers and investors I'd go with dnsales.com....if you want a much wider audience with no knowledge of domain names,I'd use domainnamesales.com

The best solution is to put key phrase into domain name, however, domains with an abbreviation also have a value!
