Have any one of you ever thought, the slickest salesman out there is a domainer?

Basically a domainer take a registration fee 6.99 or less at registrar or forums and end up selling it for xxx, or even x,xxx to an end user.

Then the end user bought it.

Then some discussion happens on the end user's part, he/she decided to drop the domain name or never bother to pick it up after doing some googling online.

Conversation:

Enduser: I bought xxxx.com for $x,xxx.xx isn't that smart?

Enduser's family member: Did you bother to look at Google?

Enduser: Let me check.

Enduser:.....I have been con into buying something that's worth only $x.... for the first time in my life! That asjbdoaubsaudfbsd domainer!

I think it is not our job to simply leave them with it and getting buyers remorse and possibly badmouthing us to all and sundry, but giving them real data that they can use such as search metrics, and keyword competition and how much they pay every month in advertising vs the cost of owning an awesome name...

So many times people wake up the morning after and wonder who the hell that is who is sleeping next to them.

A good salesman (or woman) will know how to circumvent this before it happens :)

(And hopefully pick up some good word of mouth traffic lol)

A domain is NOT worth $10, it is worth however much it will help your business, people always tell me they own their own land outright. Fine I say, pick it up on your back and carry it 100 yards. What people need to understand in end user land is that they pay for newspaper space maybe $100 for a tiny spot that gets read for one day, for a conservative $1k you can have all that traffic for the next 50 years.

As a consultant, when I am asked to justify my fees (seldom happens :p) my answer is that how much I cost is not what matters; what matters is how much you are going to earn and save by retaining my services.
In life, you have to focus on value for money, and not just costs.
There are many benefits to owning the right domain, the edge in terms of image for example is difficult to assess but can be considerable.

The price for a domain 'could' be $10, but only when you're the first to snag it ;)

Saying that, most domainers are losing money. Making big money with domains is easier said than done.
