Hi All,

I received an offer for one of my ----tv.com's thru godaddy's DomainBuyService, (the domain was not listed for sale any where). Someone paid them $60 to get an apprasial and make me an offer. The offer came in at $65.

What kind of an apprasial did this person get?

To me, for the person buying this service it was a real waste of money. He could of made me a direct offer of 125.00. (not that I would have accepted).

This also tells me that the person that made the offer really has no idea about the value of domains.

What do you think?

Judy

P.S. This person also COULD have had the .tv version up until the time they made the offer.

IMO anyone willing to pay Godaddy for their DomainBuyService has to be a serious enduser. I cannot imagine anyone who knows anything about domaining paying for this service.

Looks like they are just testing the water with this low-ball offer. Make a decent counter that you feel is reasonable and see what happens.

Good luck!

I agree Len. I countered they declined. They must be scratching their head, wondering why I was asking so much, When godaddys apprasial probably came back as a reg fee.

Is there a Domain Hall of Shame somewhere? GoDaddy belongs in it!

Thanks,

JLC

Don't assume the deal is dead. Not legal advice, but they may have been testing the water multiple ways: to see if the name is for sale to purchase, or to see if the name is for sale so they can use it against you via UDRP/WIPO, etc...

On a positive note: the buyers may still contact you directly to avoid the commission that godaddy charges (10%?-20%+?). Keep in mind, their fee to GD is non-refundable, so they have already invested a little in the purchase. Try contacting GD's DomainBuy division to ask them what they believe your counter-offer should be... you won't get a direct answer, but the conversation is rolling again and there's still a chance to cashout.

Whenever I receive an email from GDDB, I click through to view the offer, but abandon the page after viewing the offer. I do not submit a counter-offer via the website form. GD will then contact you by phone or email to negotiate directly. You can then use whatever tactics you have to decipher a win/win pricepoint. But do not assume that the buyers are not ready for a big purchase. I've had deals with GDDB in the past that were initial lowballs that turned out to be 4 and 5 figure deals.

good luck.

Well the godaddy appraisals (and most others actually) are notoriously over-valued (like $xxxx for a junk name) so this appraisal is a mystery. Maybe they read one of those newb articles that says never pay more then $100 for any domain.

Thank You! Great advice. It will be very helpful to me in the future and to all domainers. Godaddy kind of hints at that in the domain buy service info when they say will do everything possible to make the deal. I should have read between the lines.

I don't expect them to be back, they didn't even make a counter offer, but you never know.

Thanks Again,

Judy

Thanks for the reply Timewarp. I don't believe in automated appraisals, which I believe most are. I am guessing but I believe godaddys is. Maybe they are just glueless when it comes to .....tv.com or .tv.

I did an estibot estimate....out of curiosity......for the two keywords as a .com it came back as a $53,000 domain add tv.com or .tv it came back as a reg fee domain.

Too bad everyone don't know simply that a domains value is what it is worth to the end user.

For more reasons than just this. I've heard they're going bankrupt so that should be shame enough.

Maybe an unfounded rumor, but a good one just the same.
