Don't you just hate it when you are in an offer - counter offer situation, you have been going back and forth then all of a sudden there is no response!!!

Just out of courtesy you would expect the other party to express their final offer or cancel negotiations! :bah:

This happened to me with 5 .tv domains in the past week and I'm not a happy camper..... This isn't the same person for each domain either..... There's obviously a lot of folks out there with no business manners.

Sorry, just had to get this off my chest.

Silence could also be a negotiating ploy...

Well, I try to make negotiations short for this reason. IMO the sale is doomed if I have already done more than two rounds of offer/counter offering. Usually the potential buyer becomes annoyed. By the second round of negotiations the buyer has probably already decided how much they will pay for the domain they are interested in.

Think about it. Who benefits from furthering negotiations in most domain name sales? If a buyer keeps inquiring about a domain or increasing his offer, it will become obvious to the seller that this buyer really does want the domain name. This will probably convince the seller to stick to a higher price. On the other hand a seller that lengthens negotiations is almost always trying to extract more money from the buyers wallet.

It only makes sense for the buyer to walk away when negotiations are not satisfactory to him. By doing this instead of officially "canceling the sale" he leaves the door open for the seller to come back and meet his last offer..

IMO no matter how far apart you are on negotiation if you are going to make a "Final offer" as in, that is as high as you are going to go, then you should indicate that to the seller.

To leave it hanging until the negotiations expire is unprofessional in my book.

Why should they do it just to appease the seller? You are the one trying to get paid right?

Business can be cutthroat, knowing that I don't see this as unprofessional at all. Look, maybe they ALREADY did give you their final price. Just because didn't they say "this is my final price..." and haven't responded to your last message doesn't mean they lack business manners. For all you know it is a negotiating ploy, or they seriously lost interest in the domain, or .... (fill in the blank). You are a salesman, tell me you have never slammed the door in a salespersons face before??

Yes, losing 5 negotiations in a week sucks. Sorry to hear about that. Maybe it will give you inspiration to tweak your negotiating tactics a bit.. Better luck next time Len. :)

I have to agree Len. Being domainers, I guess we think a bit differently than your average person. If I'm willing to pay a maximum of $X for a domain, I sure as heck will always make that known to the seller if/when the time comes to make my final offer. I can't see how it would make an sense not to unless the potential buyer changed his mind between when the negotiations started and when they ended. Five in a week is real harsh no matter how you slice it...

I'm saying that this type of thing is annoying when there is no intention on the potential buyers part to communicate their intentions to either continue or not.

As for my "negotiating tactics".........I wasn't allowed to introduce them as there was barely any negotiating going on!
