DomainAgents.com - Any alternatives?

Hello everyone,

So I decided to use DomainAgents to make contact with an owner of a domain name and paid them $20. The domain name is not a very good one, it's over 20 characters long and is most definitely not a premium com net or org. I thought my opening offer was very decent too.

They have emailed me twice (automated emails) saying they couldn't make contact with the domain name owner. I am a bit skeptical that a human being never even bothered to try and make contact with the domain owner at all, so I emailed them the contact details of the domain owner. No response from DomainAgents.com.

I'm beginning to believe that DomainAgents' system of making contact with domain owners is all automated via email, and that they don't bother to personally do anything. The other problem is the domain owners domain doesn't have any email address publicly listed in the WhoIs Database, so I don't believe DomainAgents bothered to take the time and find the contact details of the domain owner.

What are my alternatives? Obviously I'm willing to pay for a company to make contact. I have all of the details of the domain name owner including Name, Email, Address, Phone, Facebook, etc.

I just need the professionalism of a business to do it on my behalf. What are my alternatives?

You can try yourself, ask a member here that is good with negotiations to help your, or even a branding company rep might be able to move the process along.

Could you name any specific companies or individuals?

chickenfillet,
Donโ€™t waste money on middlemen. Your communication skills are Shakespearean compared to most domain industry professionals. Remember, there are absolutely no barriers to entry in this business and money does all the talking. Contact the registrant and make your offer.

Hi Chickenfillet,
We've been working to contact the owner of the domain. We had already had the same information you sent and have been trying it and other contacts, but as of yet, they haven't responded. We have a process that we've developed over many thousands of negotiations and a dedicated research staff. Some owners are slower to engage and others can't or won't (we've run into situations where an owner is in jail for instance). If you want to talk about it more, I can put you in touch with the agent assigned to your negotiation.

Hello DA, have you personally Phone'd the domain owner, and also message him on Facebook? He seems pretty active on Facebook with 900+ photos...

It would seem more professional with DA messaging him on Facebook instead of some random guy like me.

Yes.

If DA phones up the domain owner multiple times (during business hours in the Country of the owner) and messages him on Facebook and he still doesn't respond after a week or two, then obviously the domain owner is not interested.

DA, I doubt you have done this though. I mean, someone mustn't be a very nice person if they deliberately ignore FB messages that involve potentially easy money. Even a 'yes' or 'no' message is sufficient via FB.

Do you think my offer was too low? I was thinking of doubling it to 4 figures+, but such a domain might not be worth it.

The .net version of the domain I'm interested in, is for sale for under $500 so...

Hi ChickenFillet,
Personally I think the opening offer is a fairly reasonable starting point, but domain valuation is subjective.

We do have a refined contact process which I can't get into specifics of, but Facebook is a channel we use to connect with owners.

I've requested that the agent working with your negotiation reach out to you in the morning.

Well, I'm willing to double the offer if the domain owner wants.

Please use FB and the domain owner's phone number during business hours in his country.

I may not need the agent to reach out to me. I need the agent to reach out to the domain owner via Phone and FB.

think you should learn a little bit before jumping the gun.

Well, thank you DA for contacting the domain owner.

Unfortunately, I will have to back out of the negotiation because the owner still wants 10x my initial offer price, well into 4 figures.

That's too much for a .uk domain that is over 20 characters long. It is not .co.uk, but just .uk. It's not worth anywhere near that amount. I'm not sure what planet the domain owner lives on...

Even the .net version is selling for 1/10th the price of the .uk version...so I might as well get the .net version.

Thanks anyway DA.

Just a tip for you DA: Try and notify domain owners to counter offer with reasonable prices, not outrageous ones.

Yes, pricing is subjective, but $5,000 for a 20 character .uk domain is jaw droppingly flabbergasting...I would have to be mad to agree to that deal.
