.tv Domain snobbery

I'm sure this has been mentioned before so apologies...

Very interested to see that on another well known domain forum .TVs seem to be ignored as a matter of principle on the appraisal thread. They really seem to hate .TV over here - almost as if it's contaminated or something! What do you think the reason is? I guess it's because of its chequered history and pricing issues maybe? Perhaps it is perceived as being impure, tarnished and not attracting serious buyers. Can you see these die-hards changing their opinion of .TV?

Without seeing the actual names i would have to guess it's a mix of 2 reasons.

A- We are so much further down the road here at Namepros in terms of experience with .TV , the forum and Eq have been instrumental in all of us getting to grips with .TV.Most of us know about premiums,renewals etc,also there is a wealth of experience from people who happily give their thoughts on the board,where as on other boards they are still fear what they do not fully understand.

B-The actual quality of .TV names being registered at the moment,some are nothing short of diabolical,and even on this board they are being ignored.
I am not saying all, but lately 95% of regges i have seen have been awful, although to be fair ,there has also been some pretty decent ones for $9.99.

As i said, i may be completely wrong, but this is my theory and i am sticking to it ( unless anyone has a better one, in which case i will change quicker than the wind )

Hi Smash, naaah it didn't bother me cause I don't post tvs for appraisal there but there was alot that were and their feelings were getting quite hurt!

OK, we know dot com is king - no dispute there. But I think the race for second place is becoming very interesting. Let's face it, .net never reeeeally captured the imagination did it? Orgs are nice (I used to have a few good ones like stockbroker.org , damages.org).

ws? - who?

biz? - nice idea but say it to someone as in 'visit my site at shammalammadingdong.biz' and they think you're having a laugh. Not taken seriosuly IMO.

us - well, possibly, if you're in the states. I don't see it used much though.

mobi? - all hype and no substance?

TV? - actually tells you something about where you're going! Says vibrant/funky/modern/rich-media....

Whaddya think? .TV chasing hard on the rails for second place in a few years?

Which forum are you talking about? The only other big forum I can think of is DNF.

I think the "other" big forum missed the boat on .tv and don't want to admit it. I use to frequent both boards, but now I visit namepros a couple of times a day and the other once maybe once a month. Then again I am focused on .tv.

As an outsider I see .tv as a specialty market just like some people like to invest in their own ccTLD. It's not a market for everyone :imho:

It is becoming to be our advantage that the other forums ignore or downplay the .tv extensions. In time, like anything else they may catch up or other forums will be created that will accomodate .tv as well.


This is not an extension to challenge .com but rather to expand the next evolution of the Internet. And yes, as stoneroses points out, many of the .tv names being picked up would appear to be bad in any extension, so there seems to be a rush for fools' gold here also.

Although .tv has been around a while, it was not marketed properly as it seems to be today. The merging of the Internet with the phone and television itself is what is catching fire and the blaze will cover the planet like .com once did.

In the meantime, let's just enjoy the progress and have some fun with it.
