Domain pricing determined by Domains Wanted?

Can the status of domaining and domain prices be measured by what's being posted in the Domains Wanted threads? For example, lately, I'm seeing CVCV.com domains "wanted" for $xxx, which is (was?) unheard of a year or two ago.

I know there are the normal low-ballers, but it seems the domains wanted ads are placing lower and lower prices for domains. Does this correlate to a domain recession? Do the prices domainers are willing to pay set price points or influence what endusers are willing offer? Or if it doesn't matter at all, why are there so many ads wanting decent domains for next to nothing? Are people actually selling decent two word keyword domains for $20?

I think there are just more low ballers out there as new (and often clueless) domainers jump on the domaining bandwagon.

I'm seeing a spike of ridiculously low offers in my own email queries.

I'd say if you want to believe they do, then I guess they do. For you! But I highly doubt endusers come to a domain forum to get their pricing guidelines.

Are people actually selling decent two word keyword domains for $20?
If so, please send me those lists.

Yup, cheapies and clueless newbies! The same morons that will be gone in a couple months screaming about 'how it's hopeless to make money in domaining' and 'only the ones that got in early make money'!

I just chuckle to myself when I see their 'as-if' pricings and the 'always a newbie' responding with their 'pm sent'.

..whatever..!

As Ms Domainer said, it's newbies and the inexperienced hoping to catch a bargain.

I remember last year a newbie contacted me about a name in my sig, and he was arguing with me about what price HE WANTS TO PAY.

It's nothing new. Newbies and the inexperienced are not the ones who dictate market pricing.

I have seen plenty of silly domain wanted threads over the years.

For example, $1 k-$2 k for a LLL.com

Stuff like this is also common:
"One word domains no longer than 6 letters. Must have a minimum 10,000 exact searches. Only .com. Will pay $xxx per name. If the name is really good maybe $x,xxx " I get embarrassed on their behalf when I read the shit they write. :D

I usually go in that section if I want to have a good laugh.

To be fair, sometimes it pays to be ballsy once in a while.
I've picked up a fair few domains from the 'Domains Wanted' section down the years that I've picked up for 50% of the reseller market value.

In times of recession, people will sell for lower than they otherwise would if they weren't counting every cent so there are bargains to be had out there. :gl:

Never at the height of a recession Tom was anyone selling an LLL.com for $1,000 to $2,000. A CVCV.com for $100 or a one word generic .com with 20,000 exact match that was fitting a $100 budget.

Domains wanted threads are good for niches not for liquid names like LLL or CVCV and having a budget that is ridiculously low.

Perhaps it's something I should try! lol

There are members that are perhaps "shy" to put their names up for offer/sale by themselves in case no one bids, etc, or perhaps they just want to maintain a low profile on NP.

If they are really desperate, and need the money urgently, the buyer can score a bargain, like in your case.

But I think this is very rare, because many would try to avoid anything like this especially when it comes to good names.

People here shouldn't mock the Domains Wanted thread. It has it's place on NP. (rest deleted for secrecy reasons).

There is the opposite side too: domain owners pricing their domains unrealistically high.
The truth is that if you want to get a good price, you must ask for it and set the bar high enough.

In this business it's buy low, sell high.
But you must be realistic. You are not going to move inventory and make sales if you always aim for the jackpot.

I think that some domain wanted ads are not genuine, instead the posters are either
a. fishing for domains ideas
b. looking to raise their status as power domainer

I appreciate the domains wanted section. It's important. I'm just wondering if many of the ads being run there that seem very low are an indication of lower general prices being paid for domains. Not all domains, not all ads, not all domainers, just generally speaking.

Or might the unrealistic budgets be a result of not being able to comment that notion to the seller?

This is a domainer forum. You should expect offers at unrealistically low prices if you look in the Domains Wanted section. Nobody is going to get rich selling domains there. It's domainer-to-domainer sales of domains for whatever reason are unwanted by the sellers. Sellers cannot expect to get good prices for their domains, even if it appears that somebody is looking for what they have to sell.

No. I don't think so.

I suspect that the Domains Wanted forums have been abused in the past, hence the anal retentive rules about comments. But if you think about it. It would be extremely disruptive to the buyers thread to have a slew of comments discussing the merits of their budgets for a particular type of domain. So on the whole, I support the rule about no comments.

Domainers will use that forum either honestly or to suit their needs for information. Readers of that forum should have the intelligence to read what is posted with a pinch of salt, as required.

I don't think so regarding this also. It's (mostly) cheapskate domainers trying to pick up domains on the cheap. I don't think it is any reflection on the real world prices.
