Hey all!

I'm still learning here, and I've got a ton of great advice from all of you. I greatly appreciate your kindness and informative information.

For domains, how do I build a domain portfolio? Is there a place online where I can have a group of domains ordered together under an account or something to keep everything in order?

Where can I start? What's it all about?

Thank you!

almost all top trader-friendly registrars let you manage your portfolio as a group. Fabulous.com has a special portfolio management site available that allows you to manage parking and expiry control at other registrars as well. You can also manage your portfolio at sedo and afternic for the most part.

Well, yes you can consider sedo or afternic to maintain your domain portfolio as sedo listings are pretty high and accurate.

You build a domain portfolio by buying domains from other domainers or regular people who just own some domains.
Or you catch drops or backorder drops... and some very very rare times handregging...

Remember, DEVELOPEMENT is key to make money!

Good names is hard to come by without paying alot these days.

Dont go Reg a group of domains unless its some new extension were you can reg keywords or something, but many people advice against investing in new extensions cause they generally suck. lol

And remember, if you have 5000$ to invest, its better to buy 1 good domain then 30 mediocre!
And dont go handreg a bunch of domains, its the first mistake of a new domainer!

Some people are good domainflippers, but dont count on be able to flip domains... its hard! (unless your domain is very good)

And dont give SEDO's sold list to much attention. they have millions and millions domains there and lots of times really BAD WHACKY ones are sold for good money, dont reg any whacky domains and think you can sell them on SEDO. Its an illusion... there is no explanation that stupid names get sold there, but i guess if there is a stupid domain you need an even more stupid person to buy it. It happens but not on a large scale.

this is pretty much the basics i wish someone told me when i started! lol

your registrar should be able to give you a list of domains you own. also, you can build a sedo portfolio of domains. you may also simply just type out and keep track of them on excel, and then showcase those you wish to sell here on namepros.

I have been with Fabulous for some time and wasn't aware of this. You're saying they have a service to manage your portfolio including domains that are neither registered nor parked at Fabulous? Where can I find that?

Yes, as long as you have an account for portfolio owners and not just a retail account. After logging in, the controls are under "portfolio". These tools work for monitoring domain expirations outside of fabulous using the "expiry control" feature.

Don't just amass names, buy one or two solid names, as if you start building a portfolio today, you will be swapping quantity for quality, and when your names come up for renew a year later, you will end up dropping them. If you have say $500 to spend, I would try to pick up 2 solid domains for $250 each etc... ones that actually make money, so you can build your money, and keep purchasing money making domains or what not.

This looks great. So just sos I'm clear ... your saying I can import my entire portfolio even though less than half of it is or will be parked at Fabulous? Sorry for redundancy ... guess I'm a bit incredulous.

Yes. I have about 1/3 of my portfolio registered at Fabulous, and some enom, godaddy, and dotster. All are entered in my portfolio at fabulous though, and also listed for sale with fabulousdomains.com for sale. Fab only accepts com/net/org/info in their registrar. You can enter all TLD's like .biz and .us, but a few won't truly work with their expiry tracking such as .ws and .mobi and will not show the correct expire dates.

It wasn't updating the expiry dates on my domains outside Fabulous so I contacted my rep. He just wrote back and said they've discontinued this service for domains not reg'd at Fabulous. Bummer.
